Giant squid contain ammonia making them inedible for humans anyway. Giant squid specimens were rare for a long time. In the last few years they have been showing up on beaches and been caught by deep sea fishing crews. The same has been occurring with the Coelacanth. They are still rare enough to warrant fighting for specimens.
