I want this computer...

I want this Hobo Computer.
…isn’t it just wicked cool?

That thing is rockin’. I am sitting here trying to come up with a way to build a computer case to go with my 1760 colonial house (Shaker style maybe?) and he come up with this thing. I wouldn’t dismiss it though. Much less creative and uglier stuff than that wins international design contests all the time. He should enter.

Geez Louise, Windows users really have no taste…

I’ll take a pile o’ foam over a glorified desk lamp any day, pal.

Compared to the “Marshmellow Computer” (my new name for it), those computers look normal.

Hamish’s and my former roommate Moishe just moved back in, and he brings with him (or will, eventually) a box he plans to use as a network hub, or firewall, or something of the sort (I don’t know exactly what the plans are) to link our three computers up.

It comes to us with the name “Priscilla.”

Of course, being three gay men, we are going to paint it hot pink and glue a silverspangled high-heeled shoe to the top of it. How could we not?!

I’ll take a glorified desk lamp over a gigantic marshmallow turd any day, buddy.

I dunno, I really like the mac that introduces the Pixar logo. It’s got character.

You think that’s nuts, check out any page from this place - Bluesmoke Case Mods.

I posted about this place a while back, but some of the stuff over there still amazes me. I mean, the amount of time and energy some of these people have put into these things is truly astonishing, in any number of ways.

A couple of my favorites…

Case #134, second from the top

Case #159, towards the middle

They used to have one where a guy had built a computer in the freezer compartment of his stand-up fridge. Alas, I can’t find it now. Poke around the place, maybe you’ll find it.

Thank you astro! Something like that is exactly what I had in mind. I am seriously considering building one of those case. I like numbers 1 & 2 the best.

Oh, hush. We’re supposed to take seriously the aesthetic considerations of a guy who admits he liked Episode One?

I just had a thought: what about taking all the components out of a computer case and suspending them individually from some kind of rack on the ceiling? A little constellation or cloud of computer hardware, always expandable, with little in the way of cooling issues.
