I want to play my PS2 on my PC monitor/speakers! Help!

My brother is giving me a Ps2, and I dont want to buy a new TV to play it. What I want to do is use my pc monitor, and the awesome THX speakers (logitech z-560) I have for my pc. Basically I need to get some kind video input for my comp. How could I go about doing this? I’ve looked into two possibilities…

  1. A TV tuner for my pc - I’ve looked around and they run about 30-50 bucks. - the problem is that most of these only have a video input and lack audio inputs. What then would I do about the RCA (white/red) audio plugs in terms of plugging them into my sound card, which only has standard “headphone style” jacks? Could I buy some sort of plug that could convert the white/red into a single jack for my soundcard? How would I get this to work?

  2. Digital editing hardware - some of these have both the s-video and the audio jacks, but a lot of them seem to run about 120-150 bucks - and thats just more than I want to spend.

If anyone has any experience with this, I’d love any tips and pointers you could offer!

You should be able to find an RCA -> 1/8 mini adapter somewhere for < 5$. Sometimes the dollar store even has stuff like that. That would let you use Line In on your soundcard.

I don’t know anything about option 2 though.

You should be able to pick up a used 20’’ TV for very cheap. I would just use that and run the audio to the computer speakers. Plus, you would have a TV to use for other stuff.

I don’t know what the latest TV tuners produce quality-wise, but the one I used to have was not great.

You should be able to get an audio switch at Radio Shack for cheap. I’d look into that.

A quick Google search for “PS2 VGA adapter” yielded this device. I’m sure there are similar devices out there if this one is substandard for some reason.

I have a PS2 VGA adapter from Redant that I’d be willing to part with, since I have a 27" TV now and my PS2 is spiraling toward death anyway. Email me if you’re interested.
