I was going to name this thread "I Got Some Pussy Last Night", but decided not to.

I agree Diane, that is very sweet of you!!! Great job!

Hmmm, she has the same coloring as Sylvester (black and white). She is very skinny. She is very friendly. She was hanging out at a coffee shop (Grounds for Coffee).

I think the obvious choice would be: Monica Gellar.

'Round here we call that “tea with milk”

But, actually, “Chai” would be a great name for a cat.

I second the scanning idea (I believe vets and shelters will do it for free) just to be sure she isn’t lost (or to cuss someone out if they dumped her).

Sounds like Beatnik to me–or an even more coffee related name Beannik, and it offers “Bean” when you shorten if you are anything like us (i.e. Chestnut is Nut, Sunshine is Sun and Marble is Marbs). Cafecat isn’t too awful. I like Chai too–it sounds kind of regal for a cat. Latte is good since she’s black and white (like coffee with milk). Moca Java comes to mind as well as (other great coffee varieties that have an elegant sound like…) Kenya, Kona, and Sumatra. Or, in honor of her old stomping grounds, Grounder?

A good test is to call out the names in your best kitty-calling voice and see if you and/or she responds positively to any of them.

Congratulations and bless you for doing a generous and kind thing in taking her into your home, your heart and your life.

Cheers!
Peta

Scrawny, hangs around a coffe shop, and is ‘easy’ to pick up…

How about Monica, Rachel, or Phoebe?

Be careful Di, your soft spot is showing!

D’oh PunditLisa beat me to it! Didnt see your post there, sorry!

Don’t like cats, but man, do I like the name Bean for this kitty. Black Bean? Soup? Beannie? Bean-o? The possibilities are endless.

Dunno if you wanna stick with coffee names, but here’s some more. Perk would be a good name for a cat, or Capuchino-“Cap” for short. How about Cream- tho she may not be the right color. My cat’s were nameless for a while, until I decided what the hell and named them Sulu and Uhura while watching Star Trek one day. They had kittens, so I naturaly named them Picard, Riker, Troi and Tasha. I then had them fixed, so I never got a round os Siscos and Janeways.

WOW! Great names! I like em!!! I’m going to have to run them by my kids and let them help decide. I really appreciate all the suggestions.

There are two names that might not work even though they are great. My daughter’s name is Mary-Christine (she goes by Christine). She was born a preemie and earned the name Chris-Teeny, which has morphed into just Teeny, Weenie, and Beanie, and then shortened to Tina, Weiner, and Bean. There may be some confusion if I hollar “Bean, stop poopin’ on the floor!!!”

Oh, and Joe is my ex-husband’s name. Hugging and kissing “Joe”, well. . . . . . . . naw.

The girls at the coffee shop are still going to ask around to see if she belongs to anyone and I have been checking the lost and found section in the newspaper, but I never thought about scanning for chips. I am going to call the vet this week and have her checked out just to make sure she is all right, maybe get some cat vitamins or something to help put on some weight, and to see if she is old enough to be spaded.

Although I wasn’t looking to own another cat (my own cat is a spoiled little mama’s girl and likes being an only kitty baby), I have started to grow pretty attached to the little, raggedy mop. My kids love her and my cat is even starting to warm up to her. I secretly hope that no one claims her, but if she has someone worrying about her I want to find them.

Okay, now what’s this shit about “I pretty much figured that I was probably not going to like you a whole bunch, even if you look like Terri Garr” and “Be careful Di, your soft spot is showing!”

Assholes!!!

Oh, and Terri Garr. Really?

Er, you’re talking about a cat, right?

As far as the cat name, how does she act? If she’s an active cat how about Espresso? If she’s a lazy sleepy one, how about DeCaf? (Or DeCat, for short)(or just to be confusing)

In any case, good luck with the naming.

Hmmm… Not being a coffee drinker, I’ll just fall back to the old brand names.

Max - for Maxwell House, of course
Folger
Not sure what to do with Hill’s Brothers. You could go to the grocery store to pick out more names in this vein.

Is the cat female? What was the nosy, helpful older woman in the Folger’s commercial? Mrs. Olson? She had a sort of european, old-country accent. And there was a more recent commercial that had the soap opera format, but they never gave character names, I think.

And it looks like we’re going to get a couple of kittens this week from the animal shelter, so I’m going to lift some of the mames already submitted to throw in the hat for candidates. Ralf Jr. wants to name one, and Missus Coder and I will name the other. I’m leaning toward “Widget”.

Latte cox?

juanita (the female of Juan, after Juan Valdez)

First, you start off with a thread name like that, and then you won’t even tell about the details of your date.

The cat story confirms it - big softy.

How about a name like distraction, since it sounds like the cat took over the evening, and part of your life now.

Sili

Yep, well from the picture on the People of the SDMB pages anyhow.

Yes, I was.

No kids yet so our kitty boys are the only babies in our house.

AFAIK, there aren’t currently any microchip approved for human implantation, though I have heard that there are tracking microchips for humans in the testing phaze.
