I was sexually abused...but was it clearly criminal/illegal?

…Lamia answered your question. People who answer your questions won’t show how “reasonable people will act.” It will show what people think they would do. What they hope they would do. What they might do in real life could be completely different. Just look at the parts of my post that you decided to ignore. The survey-taker. Much more analogous to the situation in the OP, wouldn’t you agree? Would a “reasonable” person end up in my bedroom seconds after knocking on my front door? Logically and rationally you would think “no.”

And yet: this reasonable person was standing there: in the middle of my room, wondering how the hell she got herself into that situation. Real life is full of moments and decisions that you make in micro-seconds that can change the rest of your life. We shouldn’t stand in judgement. We should stand in support.

If the OP does decide to take this to the next level though, she is going to be answering questions like yours though. She will get the questions from the Yoga Class Management. Then if she goes to the police, she will get a grilling from the cops. And then she will get it from the lawyers for the defense. It is especially cruel to post the questions here: and then “await her response.” She is going to have enough to deal with. The OP doesn’t owe you an answer.

…kia kaha Andrea. Stand strong.

It’s a new day and I have to go to work.

I had no intention for this thread to somehow be about me. Now that the OP has provided an update, I’m going to move on. I hope everything works out.

Peace.

andrea thank you for the update and I hope it goes well for you! I hope those video cameras were operating and there is enough evidence that this isn’t a she-said, he-said situation and they fire the creep. And that the police report is substantiated. Good luck.

I’m glad to hear things are moving forward. FYI, the reply from the gym sounds like a normal CYA in case of a lawsuit thing. Keep on them for updates. I would ask them if they had a chance to review the tapes from the camera.

Also, keep in mind, beauty has nothing to do with sexual assault. It behooves everyone to stay vigilant and listen to that little voice that tells you something isn’t right.

I don’t know that there’s such a thing as not being beautiful enough to be a probable target for sexual assault. Naturally the better looking someone is the more motivated someone would be to sexually assault them, but that doesn’t mean that someone who isn’t beautiful can’t be assaulted. It’s very possible that this same guy has done the same type of thing to many other women.

Which is besides for the possibility that you’re better looking than you think.

I believe you.

None of this was your fault. Staying after class for yoga help is not an invitation to sexual assault.

Everything you feel is normal - it’s normal to feel guilty or ashamed, but this is not on you, the offender was in control of his actions and acted terribly.

You are not alone. What can I do to help you?

I am proud of you.

The Salt Lake Tribune has a story of a male nurse who assaulted 12 women before action was finally taken to suspend his license. It’s unfortunate that it’s taken this long, but it also shows the importance of documenting a complaint. Certainly there are many other victims as well.

Of course there are cases where false accusations are made. However, when there are multiple reports from completely unrelated victims, it certainly makes a much stronger case.
