I watched the sunrise

After beating Halo 2, I came back home and surfed the web and SDMB for a while, then next thing I know, it’s 4:30 in the morning. I was about to go to sleep when I decided to check what time the sunrise was this morning. Yahoo said it would be a little after 6, so I figured “What’s another hour at this point?”
I get bundled up for the bitterly cold (50[sup]o[/sup]) Southern California morning and walk down the street to get a clear view east. It was a beautiful sunrise, bright red streaks in the east, a duller red on the clouds to the west, then as the sun cleared the hills on the horizon everything was an intense golden hue. Absolutely gorgeous.
Now, it’s time for me to get some sleep, then when I wake up, I’ll make some muffins for breakfast. Pretty good way to spend a day off, if you ask me.

Sometimes, I like sunrise better than sunset.

As an avid ametuer astronomer and a construction worker (of sorts), I’ve seen my fair share of sunrises. I love the brightening skyglow just before the actual sunrise begins. That’s an awesome colour.

One sunrise I’ll never forget:

Freshman year at college, first semester. Mid-December. Last day before I go home for Xmas break. Chemistry final at 8:00 AM. My friend and I pull an all-nighter studying. At about 6:00 or so, we call it quits on the studying, go outside and smoke a cigar and watch the sunrise. Our school was on the side of a mountain facing northeast, and we watched the sunrise over the town, smoking cigars. Then, we went for breakfast, took our final, and parted ways until the following semester.

My location says it all.

It was eons ago. We’d had a party at our house – actually it was a Mensa event if you want to know – one Saturday in mid-June. We’d been sitting around talking, joking, having the most wonderful time when someone realized the sky was starting to lighten. So we made breakfast. I will remember that morning forever.

I’ve been awake for the sunrise on many occasions but usually don’t think of going outside to look at it. Thanks for reminding me of what I’ve been missing.

Guess what I am going to do right now?

I see the sun rise all of the time. It is a wonderful time of day.
Love those pink clouds.
Not much of a night owl though.

This time of the year, I watch the sunrise every day! …Because I naturally wake up at about 5:45 am.

Will probably only be good until about 8:15 am, sunrise-wise

it’s not so much the sunrise being beautiful but having the time and mindset to enjoy it.
and it’s been awhile since i’d last seen one… : (

You don’t fool me. You opened this thread just to brag about how you beat Halo2 so quickly after it was released.

Speaking as the woman who couldn’t beat DonkeyKong64 because it required me to go past Level 2 of the original arcade version…Cool.

Here is my favorite sunrise. I had to get up at 4:30 in the morning to hike down to the park to get that shot. And all I really wanted to do was test my fancy new light meter.
