I will not necessarily go with the top vote getter.
If you actually post making a strong recommendation, your influence may carry greater weight than the Poll.
For Silver Linings Playbook note that I am a David O. Russell fan and have liked each of his films better than the previous (except that I liked I <3 Huckabees better than The Fighter . . . but I still really liked The Fighter).
For Wreck-It Ralph note that I had no interest in seeing it until I started hearing so many friends say that it is awesome.
Please no Spoilers!
I haven’t seen any of those four yet. So I voted for Wreck-It Ralph on the basis that it’s the one I would choose if I was going to see a movie tonight.
There is no wrong answer here, I have seen all four and they are all at least “good”. They’re also all pretty different genres, so just pick which one you’re most in the mood for and catch the rest later or on DVD.
I’d see the one that’s most likely to disappear from the theaters first. From my perspective, Lincoln is a lock for the major Oscar nominations like Best Picture and Best Actor so it will probably be around until least until the Academy Awards in February 2013. ** Skyfall** is a major box office blockbuster so it will probably be around until well after New Year’s. **Silver Linings Playbook **is a small film but it also has Oscar buzz so it may be around in at least a few theaters until the Oscar nominations are announced. That leaves Wreck-It Ralph which has probably has earned most of the money it’s going to make, has little Oscar buzz beyond a possible Best Animated Feature nomination, and will likely be crowded out by other family-friends films in the next couple weeks.
On that basis, I’d start with Wreck-It Ralph.
(Incidentally, I voted for Skyfall but that’s just the one I want to see first.)
I disliked Skyfall, despite enjoying the other two Daniel Craig Bond movies. So I’d avoid that one.
Personally, I’d go Wreck-it-Ralph simply because of the three remaining movies, that seems like the one I’d most want to see on the “big screen”. Lincoln or Silver Linings probably aren’t going to be as visually based.
Well, this will be a factor as well. The theater I’ll go to has all four starting within the span of a half hour, so I might not decide until I’m at the front of the line to buy a ticket.
As for “wait for DVD”, I have a few second-run discount “Dollar Theaters”* pretty close by. I like actually going to the movies but rarely rent a DVD. If there’s anything I miss on first-run, I like going to see it at the dollar theater. Silver Linings Playbook might never get picked up at the dollar theater whereas the other three definitely will. So, that factor is somewhat nudging me in the direction of SLP.
*Our local “Dollar Theaters” are now $2, but that’s still pretty damn good!
I’m sorry to say that I lied to you good people. I saw two movies instead of just one.
Doing a bit of math on the running times, based on the staggered screenings I thought I could see both Silver Linings Playbook and Lincoln. I was feeling ambitious, so I went for it.
Too tired to write any reviews now, but I felt I ought to report in since people were good enough to participate in the poll. Maybe tomorrow I’ll contribute to the Lincoln Thread and to the Silver Linings Playbook Thread (do we have one of those?).
