I write a humor column for this literature blog at my school, and I thought I would post it here. I’ll link to the blog if my friends let me. Here’s a recent column.

THE YOUTUBE EFFECT By Mike Morris

I like YouTube, but there is one thing I have noticed that I just cannot hold in any longer. If I did, I might explode. Anyway, all explosives aside, what pisses me off about YouTube is that there is a contiginent of idiots. Yes, idiots, also known as imbeciles, morons and people who “ain’t right in the head”. You too may have noticed this. There are WAY TOO MANY videos of people just being stupid.

Take the phenomonon that is Diet Coke and Mentos. It was funny the first few times, but now YouTube, and the Internet in general, are flooded with retards shrieking and shouting about the Awesome Scientific Discovery they have just made. “Hey, when I put my Diet Coke and Mentos together, it goes KABOOM! LOL! LOL! OMG! WTF! LOL I SAID WTF! HAHAHAHAHAHA!” Yes. Yes.

Of course, there are good videos on YouTube, lots of them. They just tend to get drowned out by the idiots. I’m waiting for a combination. I actually would like to see a history teacher on YouTube teaching a lesson in IM-speak. I can imagine him talking about World War II. It would probably go something like this. “So, like, Germany totally crushed Poland, and, like, stuff, and then Hitler and Stalin made a truce, and then, Hitler turns on his, like, BFF, and Stalin’s like, all, to Hitler, WTF, u asshole, u broke the truce!” I would like to see that. It would be funny. I shall write more, but this is this column. Shall write more soon. In keeping with the spirit of the third paragraph, TTFN! (God, did I just say that? D’oh!)

Oh well, keep up the effort in writing. Keep it up through college too, helping to write a college paper was a real fun experience.

Congrats, Admiral Footwear. Getting published, in whatever form that takes, is always a good feeling. Seeing my own name in print for the first time was a pretty damn cool high. I only wish I still had the magazine.

With regards to the content of said article, this sort of goes along with what I’ve said about the Internet in general – a saying that, coincidentally, goes well with your sig: When you give monkeys the ability to express themselves through art, you just have to accept that most of them will discover feces before paint.

From my casual observations of the visual arts I have always assumed the point of any televised transmission was to watch idiots being stupid. Have I been watching the wrong news programs?

When I read that, I pictured the scene from Idiocracy when they’re in the “time masheen” and they go past the display of the two T. Rexes fighting in front of the U.N. (One T.Rex has a Nazi armband)
