Icing down the MMP

Evening all. Watched UEFA Champions League Soccer and then coached 8 year olds to try and do the same thing (they can’t, but they tried). Dinner was a big bowl o’sallit, which was good. Looks all is (mostly) well with my fellow MMPers, so just keep taking care.

Echo was a mess when I picked her up from daycare.
Hyper as hell, maybe she was over-tired.
She wouldn’t get in the truck, kept trying to jump out. I took her for a short walk to potty, but she was still acting up.
Now both of them are snoring away.
I hate to wake them to go to bed.

I’ve had a sore throat since yesterday, and I keep losing my voice.
I hope it’s just allergies and that I’m not getting sick.

Tomorrow my son goes to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for a school project. I doubt they will be building anything, probably stocking shelves or something.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 49 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 75 and mostly cloudy this afternoon. Rain may or may not move in tonight and tomorrow. We shall see. No big plans for the day and no reason to leave da cave, which is fine by me. Sup shall be chikin enchiladas, Mexican rice, and refried beans. OLÈ!

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Turns out I didn’t need Mel - I crashed and stayed unconscious most of the night, hence I feel almost human this morning! YAY! Plus it’s my Firday, so that helps, too! And my boys spanked Houston big time last night - GO NATS!!!

Yep, good mood. Happy Thursday!!

Morning all. Up early for no apparent reason, BLT’s are planned for a little later and except for the 12U boys soccer, nothing much planned.

Sari, good that Sah-son is getting out and will be with people, even if it is no more than hauling stuff around. And tis’ the season for colds now, I feel a little congestion in my chest this morning…

Rain is forecast all day tomorrow and most of Saturday, which puts the end-of-the-season soccer tournament in jeopardy…we shall see. 41F this morning.

Take care all.

Happy Thorsday!

It was a chilly 36 degrees when I headed out to the park this morning. Twas cold until the sun came out. Only one other person showed up, until I was leaving. I would have stayed longer, but I have to drive my son to his project. Well, not really, because if I wasn’t taking him to his project, I would be irking.
Since we didn’t go get Mexican for lunch yesterday, we’ll probably get lunch somewhere today. Something with a drive thru since the pups will be with us. I have to remember to get gas while we are out too. I need my son to hang onto Echo at the gas station. Ripple understands that he has to wait in the truck while I pump the gas, Echo will try to jump out.

Only things on the agenda for later are irk and house irk.

They make ‘car seats’ for dogs; I recommend one as they both prevent you from being distracted & keep them from flying/getting injured even if you just stop short.

There are a few different varieties. One is a harness with loop in the back; put the seatbelt thru the loop. The other is just straight, one end clips into the seatbelt & the other end clips to their collar (I wouldn’t do this) or a harness (yes).

I find it helps, when flying Ryanair, to treat the whole thing like an elaborate practical joke. They still doing the ‘charging your to bring your hand luggage on board’ thing? I definitely suspect if they have to drop oxygen masks, you’ll have to put in a few €’s, plus maybe watch an advertisement, before breathing.
My frustration du jour is getting a stoopid parcel. It’s a book, nothing exciting, but supposedly a good reference book for a skool project I’m doing. Ordered from the US at the start of the month. First off, the ‘new’ copy had magically vanished from stock, leaving only a slightly ratty copy. It took the company until after the projected original postage date to discover this, then email me (supposedly they’re Texan, but they’re using classic Indian grammar) to ask if I still wanted that, at the same price, of course.

Then email again, several days later, saying they couldn’t send it without a valid UK phone number, so I had to send them that.

I finally got an email saying it had been posted 2 days after the latest day it was supposed to arrive.

It then apparently reached here in half the projected time, with the first delivery being attempted on Monday, while I was away.

Followed by (apparently, though there was no note) one on Tuesday,

Then one on Wednesday, a few hours before I got back, accompanied by a note saying ‘We’ve now made 3 delivery attempts, your parcel will be sent back to the local depot’. It was still actually with the contractor who tried to deliver it, who lives a few streets away, but he said he’d already processed it for return, so couldn’t do anything, I’d have to contact the delivery company (note that no-one actually attempted to use the phone number that the parcel was delayed to obtain) via their website. The website ‘tracking’ claims it’s in Heathrow, and, oddly, so am I, and has no options for anything.

The ‘local depot’ turns out to be 25 miles away, in a town notorious for being a pain to drive and park in. I worked out that the cost to drive there and park would exceed the cost of the book. Eventually- after calling and trying their barely functional ‘chat’ option multiple times- managed to get a person to argue with. After repeatedly being told there was nothing they could do, I have to go to the depot, that’s policy, they finally suddenly declared they’d deliver it tomorrow (when I am, as it happens, also planning on being out most of the day, working on the project I needed the damn book for), and stopped replying.

I wait to see what happens. I may call the local delivery driver tomorrow and see if I can arrange an actual time where I’ll be in. I know it’s not his fault, but… this book better be useful after all of this.
Anyway, I had a nice trip away, and the irk I didn’t wanna do on Saturday phoned and asked if I’d mind cancelling the shift, so stuff’s otherwise good. Hope you all behaved appropriately while I was away. I need to go down the allotment to empty the kitchen scraps bin into the compost; I didn’t get round to it before I went, and it may crawl out by the weekend if I don’t.

Blurf Howdy from Irk. Going to lunch with one of my vendor reps. We have been trying to go for about a month. Something always comes up but today is the day. We are going to the good Italian place.

Red Thanks for the info. I will have to buy indestructible toys for him. Those look good and affordable.

Blurf Happy Thursday everyone.

Glad this day is moving right along - hope the afternoon goes as fast.

I’ve decided supper will be clear-out-the-fridge, tho I may have to make some veggies. We shall see.

Meanwhile - LUNCH!!

I’ve got around ----- not quite that many but close. And all those interest me except the ARs and Armalite. The main difference between us seems to be if I don’t have something to the range (and I keep logs) about once every 5 years I look to pass it along to someone else. There are a couple sentimental exceptions but going to the range at least once a week gives me enough time to “rotate stocks” so to speak. My big weakness is single shot .22s. I probably have around 28-30 just of those. And three different varieties of the “Targetmaster”. :smack:

(I have a .460 my great-Uncle Germik made for me. I have shot it a few times; enough to know I don’t want to shoot it that much. But having something he built --------- priceless.)

Animal Rights activists, take note.

Oh and ps: I GET TO WATCH THE VIKINGS TONIGHT AND SINCE ITS FRIDAY I CAN DRINK!!!
And depending on how the game goes, I may have reason to.

Derringers?

No boobus-toobus for me tonight. I get to drive to the state that invented the toothbrush (because any state other than WV it would have been the teethbrush)

Wanted to irk from home & leave early but noooo…I have to get on the road late.
I’m not complaining (much) because the reason for leaving late is J2 is being inducted into the National Honor Society tonight!

I expect much caffienation since I don’t anticipate arrival at least 1:30ish in the morning (& it was a long night last night between WS & prepping stuff to go).

We had a funeral for an aunt a few months ago. I gave a Savage .22 semiautomatic rifle that belonged to our grandfather to one of my cousins. I have a Sears (Marlin) single-shot .22 rifle with a skinny 4x scope on it. It was my first firearm, and we used it in a super-8 film.

I’m ready to sell just about everything. I want to keep the 1979 Colt AR-15 (that I bought slightly used in the early-'80s) and the 1979 Colt CAR-15, and the Italian-made Beretta 92FS (one of the last, before you could only get the American ones). I also want to keep my H&R 999 and my Winchester 94/22. I’ve never fired the Winchester, and I’ve only used the H&R once to dispatch a mouse that a snap trap didn’t kill. I just think both of those are neat.

So I talked to my boss this morning. I told her that I could think of two reasons the president wouldn’t give me the permissions I need to take over her job: Either he doesn’t trust me (which is highly offensive to me), or he’s not planning on keeping me around. She told me I’m not going anywhere. She said we’d meet with the president next week, but I’m on vacation next week so it will be the week after that. She said the president seems to think all I do is write programs, which is why I was hired. Actually, I’ve written all the programs I need. I use them all the time, but we’re moving to sending raw data where we can. Anyway, my boss says he doesn’t seem to understand what I do.

So back to taking over my boss’s job. She sent me a list of procedures in an Excel spreadsheet. I transcribed it into a Word document that’s easier to read, and edited it to remove redundancies and to clarify some things. She said I did a great job on it. I’m building a ‘procedures notebook’, both physical and virtual.

Even if this is just my typical employment insecurity, I’m going to start getting rid of stuff.

Ooh, another email telling me I need to contact a different shipping company that I’ve never heard of, to give them my phone number again. The shipping info claims the parcel came from New Delhi, I wonder when that moved to Texas? The shipping company don’t actually appear to have any way to contact them on the website either, and apparently want me to download an app to contact them…

Taking bets now; will I ever get this book?

Mostly rifles. My Derringers are all more Henry style.

One of my all-time favorites is my H&R Handi-gun ------ which I went totally nuts on in terms of barrels. It took some fitting for some and some shopping around the after market but my original 12g/.45-70 has become something even Contender owners envy.
Darn! Close again but no cigar. So I’ll go smoke a cigar.

sari, I refuse to carry an untethered dog in my vehicle. I worked on an ambulance crew in college and saw a couple of wrecks that the dog survived initial impact, but got scared, bolted into traffic and got squished. For Nelson, since his harness and leash are on anyway, I attach the leash to the oh shit! bar with a carbine clip on the passenger side. He has a bed on the shotgun seat, so he can either curl up for a nap or look out the window.

I got a nice surprise at irk today. At our all hands meeting, our new maintenance manager was introduced. I worked with Rog and his sister 20 years ago in the meat packing industry. I said hi to him after the meeting and told him where my desk was and he came back for a bit to chat. He was a good guy to work with back then and I think he’ll fit in well in his new position.

My supe also called a meeting this morning to go over the new paperless procedure. I got the feeling that most of it was aimed at the old bat who has had issues with the change (TBH, she has issues with any kind of change). She made sure that the boss was aware that she had too much of a workload (not really, she has time to fart around a couple of hours a day) to absorb the change. I’m thinking that this may push her towards retirement. C’est le guerre, not to be unfeeling, but I could use someone more capable in her position.

Nelson has learned a new trick in the past two days: he will now give me five on demand. Add that to sit, sit pretty, shake, come here and kissy kissy.

Howdy Y’all. 'Twas a pleasant, quiet day today. I read, I binge watched some Netflix, and made sup which got eaten. OLÈ! Tomorrow I shall be much more gainful and adult, dangit.
