I’ve mentioned before, a problem when I’m using Remote Desktop Connection to connect to my office PC, where the cursor will go to the upper-right corner and clears the desktop. Then it won’t let me pull the windows back. I don’t want to disable the hot corners, and this thread is not about that anyway.
When this happens, the only way I can get my computer back is to do a hard reboot. Upon restart, the windows I had open come back. After a delay, I get a window asking me for my iCloud password. The thing is, whil I may have clicked on the iCloud icon accidentally in the past, I’ve never used iCloud. I’ve never set up a password. I’m only dimly aware that iCloud is for storing stuff. Or something.
Why do I get this window every time I reboot? How do I make it stop? Why should I use iCloud anyway?
ETA: Oh – How can I enter a password if I’ve never set one up?
Is the iCloud login coming up on the PC? What is the OS of your windows PC?
You need to find a program called msconfig and then go to the “startup” tab and look for an entry related to iCloud and un-check it. It will ask if you want to reboot but you don’t have to. And it might remind you when you reboot that something changed and you can tell it “don’t tell me again” or something.
OK, I did see an option to sign out. When I tried, it kept warning me that a whole bunch of things would be deleted. Not really concerned, since I’ve never used iCloud anyway. But now I’m curious… Do I have a password? I get the impression it’s my Apple ID. I think I’ll leave it on for now. When iCloud pops up again, I’ll see if I can remember my Apple ID password and see what happens.
I have a lot of passwords. It’s hard to remember what goes to where. But amazingly, the first one I entered when the prompt came up (I had to do another restart this morning) was not rejected.
So apparently I’m logged into iCloud. I have no idea what to do with it.
