icq failure

Dear straight dopers

My daughter likes icq. I have set up a power user account for her in windows 2000, which means that we cannort instatll programs from her account. I have installed icq for from the administrator account. When she tries to register on the icq network while logged in on her windows account and connecting to the internet the icq registration fails with a alert stating can’t create database index file! or the icq interface indicating that the network is down or too busy or something like that.

Any suggestions?

I don’t use ICQ, but this works for most software issues where a program works for the administrator but not the users. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder ICQ is installed in under c:\Program Files. You can usually figure out which folder by looking, or if that fails, get it from the properties of the ICQ shortcut.

Right click on that folder, and choose the security tab.

Grant your daughter permission to that folder, either “read” , “write”, and “modify” or “Full Control”.

Log off and log on as her, try it again.

Thanks MC$E.

I tried your suggestion and got the same results. But thanks anyway.

So I installed msn messenger instead, which seems to have worked without a hitch so far.
