doggio That image gave me a good chuckle. WOOF WOOF WOOF squeakie.
As far as hired help goes, I’ve got a very recent example. Our trailer has a terrible mouse infestation problem, and to a lesser extent right now, we have a problem with cockroaches. So, I’ve called someone from Terminix to come in and look at the place tomorrow and give us a free estimate as to how much it would take to get these things the hell out of my house. Because I’ve had it.
In other news, my daffy landlord is at it again. I came into the big house today to use the restroom and decided to stop into the living room to tell him a joke. He insisted that I hold up the arm that I had the vaccine shot put into, so that he could see if I was emitting a WiFi signal from it. Exasperated, I consented to him “scanning” me with his phone. “Hm, doesn’t seem to be working,” he said after a moment.
“Of course it’s not working, because it’s not real. None of your conspiracy theories are real.” He gave me a mild harrumph.
Look, his conspiracy theories were cute eight years ago when they were things like “ancient aliens built the pyramids”, even though that’s pretty racist when you think about it, or “the earth is only 6,000 years old”, a belief that harms no one.
But now it’s anti-vaxx and election denialism. That stuff costs lives, and I’m always going to speak up.
Are you able to have a cat? Most rescue groups have a few good mousers available for adoption. It’s too hot and dry here for cockroaches but one of our cats is a very accomplished scorpion killer. (She bites off the tail before eating the head, then she leaves the body and severed tail for her slaves to clean up.)
Tell your landlord that I am very upset that I keep dropping needles despite being fully vaxxed and boosted.
The local critter rescue group leader is down with the plague despite being fully vaxxed. She’s feeling better but also has some brain fog and dogs and cats are suffering because she can’t think well enough to organize volunteers/transportation/needy critters.
In other news, Chewy delivered and didn’t have the kitty treats again (every time they can’t send something, they give us a 10% off our next order coupon, so it’s all good), so it looks like the cats are going to get grocery store kibble as treats. They think the cheap stuff is pretty tasty, the only reason we waste our money on Greenies is because hubs is a pushover or something.
I would be allowed to have a cat; indeed, shortly after we moved here, my landlady, knowing how much we love cats, said she’d come across a friend of hers who was looking to offload two of them to a loving home.
But our trailer is very small. It’s only 27’ wide, and I’m not exaggerating when I say I could sit down on the floor with my head touching the couch, and be able to touch the door with my feet. Cats need a lot more room to run around, especially for 3 a.m. zoomies. They’d jump up on tables and the couch and knock stuff down. It’s a non-starter, which is a shame because I love cats.
Greetings from my new laptop…and me, of course. I used Migrate Assistant to switch everything over and was surprised by how well it worked. Easy-peasy. I wish I could wrap this one in bubble wrap so I can’t break it. I am the Lucy Riccardo of computer owners.
I walked to the P.O. to mail some stuff, and en route, I saw an older guy standing with his head on his arms on a utilities box. A very nice bike was lying nearby. I stopped and asked if he was OK. He was. Just rather drunk, I think. The ensuing conversation contained this nugget from him: “Karaoke is for people who can’t sing and can’t hold their liquor.” Not having been to a karaoke bar, I couldn’t comment.
He asked me out. I declined. As I left, he thanked me for stopping to ask about him. Sooo many people who feel invisible.

Couldn’t agree more. Is it sheer luck that it’s healing well when it should have had surgery, or is he just saying it looks OK to cover himself?
VanGo**, all your photos and comments make Cinnamon seem so familiar. Somehow I’m missing a dog I ever knew.
Dicey,
I wish it had been your neighborhood! I shall avoid using dicey in that sort of context. Sketchy works just as well. (Unless you’re an artist. You’re not an artist who does sketches, are you?)
Taters, happy anniversary!
Oopsie, I have to grit my teeth on other sites. The one that really gets me is when people say “Awe!” in response to a photo of a baby or a puppy. It’s aw, people! Otherwise, you’re saying, in effect, “Amazement and wonder! Your baby is cute!” Not exactly a compliment.
You just stay right here where you’re appreciated, missy.
red, what is a JR? Junior retriever? Jumping Rover? Just ridiculous?
Jack Russell
So all those things?
Just kidding. I love Jack Russells and don’t know why my brain couldn’t supply the answer.
nellie Your intoxicated acquaintance was not wrong about karakoe. At least in my limited karaoke experience. (no I never sing so’s not to help prove the point)
G’night y’all. I have to drive an hour and a half tomorrow to help some clients set up something that I left good instructions for. And it’s supposed to be the edge of a big snowstorm for us, so, yay. Wish me luck.
I just now saw this. It got lost in the whooshes before. I’m having the surgery at the orthopedic clinic (which has surgical suites) because I’d otherwise have to wait a full month or more, due to our governor’s moratorium on elective surgeries. They’re handling the prior authorization, but honestly, I almost wish I could because they’ve messed up several things over there. Hopefully that doesn’t carry over into the surgery.
Do you happen to remember (if you ever even knew) how long it took?
Sari, glad the hospital is keeping your neighbor.
And I know someone whose aunt’s body wasn’t found for days after her demise. They had to replace the carpet, have the upholstered furnishings in the living room professionally cleaned, plus scrub and paint the walls. Definitely not a scent Glade is going to feature any time soon.
Isn’t it both? Atlantic salmon are, AIUI, only found in the northern Atlantic Ocean and in rivers flowing into the northern Atlantic.
As I remember (two surgeries, one outpatient), it is done electronically and happens in a week or so. This was pre-Covid.
An unsolicited bit of advice? When you check in, make eye contact with whoever checks you in and ask “would you please confirm that Medicare has authorized my procedure?” In front of them jot their answer down, including their name and professional role. If you were to have a witness with you (whoever drove you), even better. That way there is no chance you will get handed the whole bill because a stitch was slipped somewhere.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Well Gordie is 60lbs, which is ridiculous. But white dogs can’t jump.
Neither do I - he was obviously very intelligent!
Ours absolutely love Temptations! Taz used to come running when I shook the container (which is why I think he might be losing his hearing…) The evening routine is:
- Let Higgs out to pee
- Give cats treats
- Let Higgs in
- Give Higgs treat
I turn around from letting the dog out, and the cats are there pacing. Creatures of habit for certain!
I’ve had to mail a couple of packages this week, and I got to thinking how amazingly cheap it really is. The afghan I made for my niece’s soon-to-be-born baby went from here to her door for about $8 - I’d have had to spend at least twice that in gas plus 4 hours in the car to get it to her! And just yesterday, I mailed a housewarming/happy birthday package to my nephew in Texas (I knitted him some dishcloths and hot pot pads) for just over $5 - for an almost 1500 mile journey! Such a deal!
Today’s the day - snow supposedly on the way this afternoon and overnight, starting as rain. Then tomorrow’s forecast is pretty much 22° all day, which should make for fun while shoveling. Oh, yeah, and now they’re saying 3-6" of the white crap. Dammit. At least we have no place we have to go, so I can pace myself while shoveling. rah. I guess.
No babby today, so no excuse for not doing chores. We’ll see what gets accomplished.
Happy Firday!!
Morning, mumpers! It’s 7C/45F and mostly cloudy which looks about right from my view out of the window.
unknown sorry my tooties are making you cringe! I worked from home yesterday so spent all day in warm slipper-socks, with my toes properly strapped with cotton wool and plasters. They’re much better today, still sore but nowhere near as bad as before. I can drive in my trainers although I’ll need to replace the strapping before I try that. Also, GG is a beautiful cat!
VanGo Cinnamon certainly looks very content and regal all at once in your pics
nellie hope the new laptop works and doesn’t decide to give you any problems. Perhaps you could use sending it to Texas as a threat?
My new phone arrived yesterday but is staying in its box for a while. I have to set it up and hope it picks up my contacts list and all that stuff, plus I need to install various apps on it that I use, and the two authentication wossnames that I need for irk. However, I am off on my travels over the weekend and need a functioning phone with maps etc, so am sticking with the old one for now. I have a Very Important Thing to do on Sunday, and I cannot afford to get lost on the way to it

Time to go and pack for the first little jaunt, we are off to visit friends Oop Norf (where I hear it’s quite grim). One of the couple has bowel cancer and has recently finished chemo, and will be having surgery soon as the chemo was very successful. We are fitting in a visit in between as she’s feeling well enough to have visitors. It’s an overnight thing and we are staying in a local hotel rather than putting them to the trouble of hosting people. I have to be back by 1pm tomorrow for my haircut though…so I am presentable for the Very Important Thing on Sunday
Spousal unit will be getting a new phone pretty soon (by Tuesday, we hope) so we’ll be going thru all this. His old phone will no longer be supported as 3G is being phased out, and I expect much whining as he sets up the new one. In fact, he still hasn’t set up his voice mail since switching carriers. But of course, this is all my fault…
His new phone is the same as I have, so I can at least help him with some things, but he’s going to complain till he gets comfortable with it, because, you know, my fault that 3G is going away. Good times. At least he’s pretty much divorced himself from work - really retired - so mostly he needs to be ready for calls from his mom.
Me? Bitter? Nah… ![]()
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy, with a predicted high of 57 and mostly cloudy. I shall betake myself over to the church house at some point this mornin’ to fill candles and set up some stuff for Sunday. These are things I have taken upon myself to do except when I can’t. Then somebody else does these things. Other than that, I foresee sloth etc. for the day. Sup shall be majick intartoobz pizza and sallit.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother, woe, dread, and misery, I suppose I should purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire.
Happy Firday Y’all!
As doggio mentioned, nellie, Jack Russell. Sometimes I forget that not everyone does the doggy shorthand.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels / sheets ready for the dryer and a load of jeans on deck. It was above freezing when I walked Nelson this morning, so any snow that we may or may not get won’t stick unless it gets quite a bit colder. The housecleaning chores waiteth.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I have not mown a lawn since about 1988. I swore I never would again and so I find it way better to pay someone else to do it.
We’ve both showered and dressed. I ran the dishwasher. I’m about to attack this pile of papers on my desk - some will be filed, but I expect most will be tossed.
Onward!!
Up, brekkied with Just Crack an Egg, and caffeinated with Coca-Cola.
I had a horrible night of dreams. First I answered a trivia question wrong, so they strapped me in the electric chair, but because I didn’t put one of my toes down properly, it wouldn’t work, so they killed me by firing squad instead.
Then, in another nightmare, my sister kidnapped me, but I managed to escape because she didn’t have the foresight to take my phone away from me, and I texted my mother telling her where I was.
The exterminator is coming today to give us a free estimate. I suppose I should clean up a little bit before he gets here.
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 27 degrees and a little cloudy outside.
Another night of next to no sleep, but apparently this will be the norm. I even tried coming downstairs and trying to sleep on the couch, but that was exactly same time that Polar decided to make “schlop, schlop, schlop” noises as he licked himself.
FCM, I feel you on the hubby/cell phone thing. My husband hates them. Two or three years ago, I talked him into getting a new one because his old one would die within 30 minutes of being charged. He insisted on getting a cheap Samsung. Now, when it does wonky things like stating he’s out of network or dropping calls, even while in the house; it’s my fault. The fact he has to have a phone is my fault.
I just roll my eyes at him and tell him he’s going to need it one day and will be glad he has it.
Thanks for the anniversary wishes, everyone.
Paint, both of the dogs that are pictured look like absolute love bugs. They are beautiful too.
scarie, I hope your toes are back to normal soonest!
Today is my RDO, but I need to go to Mud Bay and get the good biscuits for Polar. He’s also low on doggy ice cream, so I shall pick up some of that as well. Before I hit Mud Bay, I’ll need to hit the grocery store. I need fruit, eggs, yogurt, coffee, and diet coke. I am sure I will end up coming home with much more than that.
I should get cleaned up and head outside as soon as it’s light. It’s prime dog poo picking up weather. It’s so much easier to pick up when it’s frozen.
