I'd rather pay someone to do that in the MMP

Mrs. L.A. just left. She’s taking Goo to the vet to get her weighed. Goo is 8 (or is it 9?), she plays, she eats, she sleeps… but we think she’s losing weight.

Best wished to Goo. And some skritches when she gets back from the vet.

Yay on FCGK just having run-of-the-mill crud. Moooooom, the last time I was there, Ruby Tuesday had a good salad bar.

Ouch BooFae! I hope that your tootsies are better soon.

Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et. Now for some chill time in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Oh, definitely.

I called 24 PetWatch, and they say:

  • Goo’s birthday is 06/22/2013, and she’s 8 1/2 years old.
  • Abbey’s birthday is 06/03/2020, and she’s 1 1/2 years old.

And… Goo just got home. She’s 10.42 pounds. When we took her in last month, she was 10.4 pounds. So we’re happy.

Good news on Goo!

Sari it sounds like a bad situation, but I’m glad you were there to help. In case you ever wondered why you were getting mice in your house, now you know.

Watching Midway (2019) for the first time. I’m a little disappointed they did not depict my great-uncle Captain Chaplain Thomas Leroy Kirkpatrick on the USS Arizona. (Not that they did in the original.)

Yesterday my cousin and her husband visited, down from Nebraska. They brought along a couple buckets of black walnuts. I have a cracker designed especiall for those. Today I’ll start the long chore of cracking and picking them. I will limit to a certain amount each day so I don’t get so sick of them and frustrated by the long process. I love black walnuts but they are about the most difficult to work with. Messy to. I’ll be wearing gloves as you can stain your hands. At least the nuts have the dried husks off of them already, but those shells are hard!

sari - that’s scary about your neighbor. Kinda reminds me of my inlaws neighbor - she was a rather unpleasant woman who didn’t socialize much with the neighbors, but my MIL did occasionally talk with her. MIL noticed that she hadn’t seen her neighbor for several days, and one thing led to another - they found her on the floor, barely conscious. She wasn’t a hoarder - just mostly reclusive. I think she’d been on the floor at least 2 days, and she never recovered - died within a week of being found. Apparently it was a challenge to find her son, as they’d been almost estranged. Very sad situation all around…

In an “oh, by he way” - FCD mentioned he fell outside the therapy place, and no one stopped to help him up. Nice, huh? He fell on his left side, twisted his right leg a little, and twisted his neck. I held my temper, but told him he’d better use his cane next time he goes. He’s so stubborn sometimes… Drives me crazy!

I need to get to bed soon since I’ll have to get up early to fetch Toby. At least my daughter will be picking him up after work, since she doesn’t have to go for Roxy. Anyway, it’s almost bedtime. I’s tahred.

VBC came to us with viral conjunctivitis. She gets a couple of flare ups a year, her eye gets goopy for a few days and then it clears up. This time it didn’t clear up and kept getting worse, so off she went to the vet. A whole bunch of money later she is home and I am in possession of eye drops that are supposed to be administered three times a day. If I stop posting, just assume I’m dead.

Hubs took his friend to go charity store furniture shopping (friend did pretty well) so poor GG was alone and all by himself and bereft of all company for endless hours. GG has attachment issues, currently he’s attached to my leg and walking isn’t easy with a 13 and half lb cat attached.

Evening all. Not much accomplished today outside of some financial figuring. Found a Magna (Japanese comic) archive for “One Punch Man” and I keep reading it, it’s rather crazy but I guess I’m hooked. About 1/3 the way through the archive now.

Schools here have been closed but they are allowing us to do soccer games on Saturday–go figure. Got some new goalie gloves I’ll take with me and let the kids break them in.

Sari, that’s quite a story; glad the niece was a responsible sort. And glad you were there too. It’s something that worries me sometime, I’m no hoarder and am in reasonably good shape, but if I fell and really hurt myself, how long would it be before someone showed up?

FCM, Mr. Stubborn better figure things out or the next fall could be very serious. And glad the kids just have one of 40-50 crappy childhood sicknesses.

Unknown, hope VBC gets better without any maimery.

OK, back to on-line comics. All y’all take care.

FCM Hope FDC is ok after the tumble. Really crap that no-one helped him up.

Unkown Awww, poor GG. He was left alone for evar. You gotta know how scary that is. And good luck with the eye drops.

baker What is this special black walnut cracker? I have giant b walnut trees on my lot, and mostly they serve as food for the annoying squirrels. I know how much of a PITA they are to get out of the shells, but I might be enticed if there were an easier way.

I’m not really looking forward to going to the high school next week to help them build their musical, but they’re paying me, and I promised my friend. Damn germy kids.

I saw the orthopedic dr today who did follow up x rays and it turns out both bones in my lower leg are in fact fractured which he didn’t see on the first set of X-rays. The larger outer bone is nearly 100% healed and the inner bone is 50% healed. He said he would have done surgery if he’d have found it sooner to stabilize the bones but they are healing nicely and are not misaligned. At least I now know this will heal on its own and I just need to keep doing what I’ve been doing. About another 6-8 weeks all should be normal. This has been one of the worst ordeals of my life.

My neighbor drove me to the doctor and she continues to walk Buddy twice a day. I don’t know what I’d have done without her. I did write a check and made her take it as I would have paid anyone else but Buddy doesn’t like ppl though he’s used to her. She argued with me but she did cash the check. I will give her another in a couple weeks.

I finished watching Lilyhammer (highly recommend) and have started watching Ozark. The highlight of my week though is football. Take care everyone.

paintchargw, it’s easier to show a picutre than describe. An Oklahoma company used to makr them but I don’t think it is around now,. But you can find them for sale online.

A hulled nut is placed in the jaws of the cracker, the little hood is pulled over, and the handle moved over that top arch. It takes practice to get it to work meaning it still won’t be a fast process, but it’s better than wacking them with a hammer. If you google Sapulpa OK nut cracker you should find listings of a number more for sale.

You’ve managed to soldier through enough shit to break a strong horse and you are still standing, you are allowed to slack off on the less important stuff for a while. Mom says she doesn’t remember the year after my dad died, it’s all fog. Grief fog is normal, don’t beat yourself up over it!

Sari I agree that your neighbor is lucky to have such a good niece. I’m really looking forward to hub’s friend the hoarder finally moving somewhere where people will be close and he will be checked on if he misses more than two meals. We are not his family and we have no legal authority over him. If he had fallen in his shack, he would have refused to open the door and we wouldn’t have any standing to help force the sheriff to do anything more than knock and leave.

FCM I am so glad FCD didn’t get hurt. What kind of cane does he have? When I had one of those generic drug-store canes I didn’t like using it, but hubs bought me a fancy fiber-carbon self-defense cane that I can bring on planes (cause he’s a guy) and I went to the dollar store and bought some decals to bling it up, then got a pressure activated light that flashes every time I take a step. I like using that one, I pretend it makes me look like a gracefully aging rock star.

I’m so glad your grands don’t have the big crud, just a little one. Hopefully they will be feeling much better tomorrow. Kids bounce back so quickly.

Just reading about it has made me winge more than once, I’m glad it will be over soonish. Are you bored out of your mind?

I used to polish his nameplate at the USS Arizona Memorial when I was a janitor back in the mid 80’s. I used to sweep very slowly (so I could stay in hearing distance) around the Docents when they were talking about their experiences during the bombing and I heard your great-uncle’s name often enough to not even need to look at your link. His name was spoken with respect and regret.

Small world

Thanks for the encouragement, we did the first drops tonight and it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. I think we will live for a week but 10 days might be pushing it.

GG is so big now that we have problems remembering that he’s just a 9 month old kitten. He was living with him momma and aunt and 5 brothers and 4 cousins when we brought him home. We are retired and VBC glomed onto him as the kitten she always wanted, so this really was the first time that GG was all by himself. He did NOT like it. Currently GG is sitting on hub’s lap, “helping” him kill computer monsters. There has been a lot of swearing going on, but my big strong husband just can’t seem to manage to push a cat off his lap no matter what.

Howdy Y’all! Provisions got procured, We had a late N.O,L/sup at the hog trough GC, and nappage and sloth were accomplished. A busy day for a couple of grumpy old men!

MOOOOOOM glad the grands don’t have the plague. Hope they’re both over the crud soonest. Glad FCD is OK after his fall.

sari YIKES! Hope the neighbor gets the help she needs and is not badly hurt.

Butters so I take it you are on the mend?

Nameless hope VGC’s eye is better soonest. Poor GG, he missed his mommy!

Flyboy glad Goo is OK.

Nellie hope your 'puter does not go all wonky on you again.

CupCakes that nutcracker looks like it could double as a medieval torture device. I’m sure doggio will just have to get one.

:heartpulse:

My uncle, my father’s youngest brother, got his middle name Leroy from my great (Great-?) uncle. My uncle was born 3 December, 1941.

One of the Docents was a Navy guy who was attached to the USS Arizona but was married by Captain Chaplain Kirkpatrick (he always used the full title out of respect) on the 6th so was getting laid off base when the bombs fell. (He didn’t say he was getting laid, that was my dirty mind working, but honestly, what else would he have been doing?) Docent also said that his oldest son Thomas joined the Navy in '59 which I offer up as evidence as to what they were doing.

I don’t know if you’ve ever been to the Memorial on December 7, but back in the 80’s we spent weeks spit shining the place for the big event. Us janitors were given the usual orders to wear our “dress” uniform (the one we didn’t work in but did iron) and got overtime to be able to keep up without rushing around and being in the way. We didn’t have to, there were a few accidental spills but the person who spilled usually rushed off to get paper towels before we even knew about it.

His name is surrounded with respect.

flyboy and unknown That’s a really sweet story of what a small world we live in. Best to both of you. I just think that’s pretty cool.

Well, shit, best to the rest of us as well. My version of Tiny Tim.

I have not. But I’ve always wanted to go. I saw an image of the memorial online that happened to have my relative’s name in it. I’ve wanted to go see it.

I wonder if there’s a connection?

It really is cool, I’m all wow about this myself!

It was never said, but heavily implied. The only reason the Docent was alive was because your Great Uncle was willing to facilitate the wedding that saved the Docent. The main reason I swept so slowly was because the Docents all had their usual talk but then would take questions and chat about what had happened. That was the best part and was well worth having to run through the parking lots to pick trash up to make the time up.

I find myself wondering if the nameplate I polished daily is still there today. I know it was brass, but it got polished every day by young people with a lot of energy.

So, since I haven’t spammed you guys with kitten pics lately, I want to share these.

And today:

He’s starting to look somewhat like a Maine Coon, but mostly he just looks like a doofus and he just doesn’t grok doors.
