I'd rather pay someone to do that in the MMP

This is a portion of the only image I’ve seen. IIRC, I saw the image in a documentary. The link is to an image of the marble wall.

That isn’t the one I polished. The brass plaque I polished was under a clock that was stopped at the time of the attack, in a side room that had TALL display cabinets that short me had to use a ladder to dust. I also cleaned the display glass a couple of times a day.

I don’t remember anything about cleaning the marble, but I do remember that it was large and impressive and folks would touch it and then talk about family or friends.

Per the link I posted, Capt. Chaplain Kirkpatrick’s clock is displayed at the Arizona Memorial Museum, stopped at 8:04:35.

It’s weird to think that he died at the age of 54. My dad was alive. My uncle(s) were alive (born just four days prior). But he was born in the 1880s.

Very cool that I touched something that connects us more than just online friendship.

Did you happen to read the Pit thread about Ex’s being so stupid? Just asking cause that’s where I outed myself as a floozy. The blurred part has adult content.

I had sex on the actual Memorial, and in the basement of the Visitor’s Center (which is where the clock is displayed) and on the USS Bowfin. Having sex in a cramped metal fish with a hunky Marine is like having sex with one on the beach - worth doing once but certainly not worth doing twice.

Hubs has just counted the kitty treats and realized that we are going to come up short. VBC needs instant treats after getting drops so she gets two, GG and NSGO also get one each. I’m willing to fake them out with cheap kibble but he wants them to have “healthy” Greenies.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

He looks like you dumped some Rogaine on him.
And the late Maggie Wonderbeagle couldn’t figure out how to walk through a door that was 90% open.

Gla you’re healing, Butters. Just wish they could have figured out the break sooner.

Glad they got to your neighbor, Sari.

Glad FCD is OK, Mooooommmm!. But you might want to trade out his cane for a clue by four.

This is going to be a looooooong day because it follows a bad night. I had the worst time falling asleep, then it felt like I woke every 10 minutes. I finally gave up just after 5, so I’ve been up nearly an hour. My morning routine is complete, except for some surfing, and in half an hour or so, I’ll head out to get the baby.

It’s a stoopit 14° out there, dammit! Luckily, my car will be really warm by the time I get to the school, and I won’t have to go out again till my dental appt at 5. With luck, Toby will take a good nap at some point, giving me time to strip the chicken carcass from last night. I was thinking some of the meat will go into a pot pie and some into soup… which means I need to boil the bones for broth. So that should be fun.

My daughter has asked to put off my b-day dinner yet another week - no biggie. As I told her, it’s not like I have a social life or anything. So maybe next weekend. Meanwhile, we may (or may not) get whomped with snow starting overnight tomorrow, depending on which model you believe. The forecast I choose to believe says 2-4", which is shovelable. Then by Weds, we’ll be in the middle 50s, because weather is stoopit.

OK, onward into the day! Happy Thursday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 38 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 62 and N.O.S. for the day. We shall hone our sloth skills today and that will be the extent of activity outside of makin’ sup, which shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Unknown GG is hyuuuuuuuuuuge! Will he get even bigger?

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s 11C/55F here, partly sunny. That obviously means it’s partly cloudy because I can’t see any sun. I have been resting poorly tootsies and they do feel a bit better today, good job because I have some driving to do tomorrow so I am hoping they’re a lot less painful by then.

flyboy and unknown what a lovely story you have to share, strange to think there there are some connections like that between our little global family. We visited the memorial several years ago so have also seen the list of names on the wall. It was a very sobering visit especially when you know that it is the final resting place of so many.

In other news, I gots nuttin’. Boring irk day at home, got a day off tomorrow which is good as I am already bored with irk.

Good morning everyone.

It’s densely foggy outside and 32 degrees. We might see partly cloudy by noon, but I have a feeling the fog will linger.

I had to go on down to Olympia yesterday and meet the new director in person. I helped her get settled in and took her on a tour of the building, as well as introduced her to staff. I was up at 3:00 and out the door by 4:30 yesterday morning. Besides getting the SD settled, I had my usual workload to deal with. Since I arrived in the office at 5:30, I tried to leave at 3:00 pm, but was held up until 3:20ish. Anyway, I was home by a little after 4:00 pm.

Yesterday was also my wedding anniversary. We’ve been married 36 years. We didn’t celebrate or anything; had some pizza for dinner. With numbers up, neither of us is interested in going out to eat and I was tired anyway.

Another pretty much sleepless night; once I finally fell asleep, the husband came in and woke me up and then he tossed, turned, scratched, and kept fiddling with his CPAP machine, so it kept me up. I got up in frustration and am somewhat cranky because I am feeling a lack of sleep. I admit to a fit of pique when I got up, wherein my husband said I was like a jerk because he couldn’t breathe. Perhaps, but then again, he knows his tossing and turning keeps me up too and every time I fall asleep on the couch, he wakes me up.

I’m glad the grandkids don’t have the plague**, FCM.**

Butters, thank goodness there is a light at the end of the healing tunnel.

Glad they got to your neighbor, sari.

Well, my first meeting is a 6:00 am, so I have another long work day ahead of me.

Taters - we didn’t do anything for our anniversary last Dec, but then we generally never made a big deal about it.

FCD just left for Oxford. He wants to see the boat ahead of the snowstorm that’s predicted, plus he just wants to get out of the house. So it’s just Toby and the critters here with me. The kidlet is snoozing after a bottle and an epic poop. I need a snooze, but I have to be the responsible adult. Dammit.

It was minus 2 degrees when I woke up. All the way up to 5 now. I don’t really need to leave the house for anything. Doing computer work today. I’m ready for spring.

NINETY NINE DAYS TIL I RETIRE! Thank you for listening.

The last few days have been bitterly cold.Think negative 11 plus wind chill. Today is supposedly going to reach 30. Woot.

I swap snow tires mounted on wheels for the winter, and the first time I did it myself. Floor jack and battery impact wrench. I’m 75 years old and overweight.

Now I have a local fellow come to the house and do it for $30. He makes money and I don’t have to bear an aching back for two days.

Morning all. Apparently Thorsday is my sleep-in day, didn’t get up until 8:30am. 39F heading for 54F and not a sign of rain. Got shopping on my list of things to do, but might postpone it until Firday morning; we’ll see.

wet one, 99 days, huh? You going to take a bottle of beer off the wall each day?

FCM, hope Mr. Stubborn…er FCD, doesn’t have a fall around the boat.

Taters, Happy Anniversary, even if husband-unit is being irritating. Have you considered the old 1960’s TV solution of separate beds?

flyboy, unknown, quite a story and thank you both for sharing it (even the naughty bits). And unknown, that’s one big cat.

Butters, two for the price of one…not how it’s supposed to work. Hope it keeps healing nicely for you. And good on ya for making neighbor take the check; she’s definitely earned it.

OK, need to do the morning internettin’ and then locate some sustenance. All y’all take care.

He promised to use his cane. He just called - apparently the Bay Bridge is having work done so it’s down to one lane in each direction, and traffic, as you might guess, is backed up. So he’ll be late getting back. Oh well.

I’ve got a baby to feed and change and burp and try to entertain. He’s starting to babble a bit, but conversation remains one-sided. He’s in his swing right now with a video on TV because I need a break. Guess that made me a bad grandmother. And so it goes.

I didn’t see that thread.

As for the blurred part, it’s like on the beach but without sand getting into everything? :stuck_out_tongue:

Random observation of the day: the older I get, the more racket my stomach seems to make when I put food in it. It’s like a squeaky wheel or something - it’s gotten older and started rusting and it makes sure I know it when I try to force it to do things, like digest toast. I guess I’ll have to be hungry if I ever agree to play hide and seek with my kids.

Anyway, the day is sorta quiet. I get my hair cut today, which will be nice. Not because I like having my hair cut, mind you, but it’ll be good to check something else off that I’d been avoiding for a while. Overlygirl’s first swim meet starts tomorrow. Sadly spectators are banned from the pool due to covid restrictions, but on the bright side, they’ll live stream it on the team app AND I’ll be near the global market we like, so I can get some swank, delicious snacks. The meet lasts all weekend, and since I can’t live in a grocery all weekend, I might call a friend who lives nearby to see if she wants coffee.

There. Mundane. Pointless. Shared.

Heaved. My sinuses are acting up because of the cold.

Yay!

No sand, but a statistically greater chance of firing a torpedo into the Admiral’s yacht.

He’s a cutie patootie!

Taters Happy Anniversary!

Mooommm I thought napping while the kids napped was the responsible way to do it :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I woke myself up from a dream this morning because I was so irate that a co-worker was asking me to do all of their work for them. It was thousands of lines of calculations that had to be manually entered. Someday I will stop having nightmares about work. Someday! But that day is not today. :disappointed:

OMG, I may actually be able to post! My wonky computer keeps whooshing to the very bottom of any page/site. I called Apple again. My laptop would have to go to Texas I think) again for diagnostics, THEN they’d determine whether I’d need a new logic board or something even pricier. In a fit of DON’T WANNA, I just ordered a new laptop. It arrives today (I hope).

Have any of you on Medicare had surgery in the last few yeras? If so, how long does it take for Medicare to pre-authorize surgery? (I have Medicare with a Plan G supplement, so I think I only need Medicare authorization.) I read it takes 10 days, but that would mean not getting approval until the day of surgery. I’m assuming I’ll need to get labs and a MRSA swab but don’t know how long before surgery those have to be done. And I need to let the person driving me there and back know so she can schedule around that day.

Due to the maniacal downward whooshing of my laptop, I haven’t seen all posts. I tried to click on the blurred naughty part of unknown’s story, but my crazed puritanical laptop wouldn’t allow it. Anyway, from what I DID see:

Sari, good on you for assisting in the welfare check on your neighbor. The Puritanical Whoosh didn’t let me read the whole story.

unknown, the first photo looks like Hey Diddle-Diddle…the cat jumped over the moon. (Makes more sense than a cow doing so…or a cat staying in the middle.) He’s gorgeous…and huge!

wordy, what unknown said. Grief sucks up all our emotional reservoir, and there simply isn’t enough left to deal with much else, so you get full points for getting out of bed in the morning. Best of luck to overlygirl at the swim meet.

Salutes flyboy’s great uncle. What a great connection between the two of you! The farther WWII recedes into the mists of time, the more important those stories become.
