I will stipulate to being a pop/sports culture idiot, but I have no idea who these pretty people are (ie the guy in the red shirt and the babe next to him) whose picture is in today’s Deadspin story about the NFL draft. Link There’s no caption and nothing in the article that identifies them, or at least nothing that I could find.

It’s Tim Tebow, recently drafted Denver Broncos quarterback, from the University of Florida where he was very successful and very famous.
And friend.
“And friend” is Janell Wheeler, his girlfriend and recent American Idol contestant.
Thanks guys! I don’t follow American Idol so I’d have never recognized Ms. Wheeler, and Tebow, like most football players, I’d not have known out of uniform. Those big numbers on their jersies (and names on the back of the jersey) come in handy. 
Tebow has always gotten a great deal of face time for a football player. Quarterback, very highly rated out of high school, national champion, Heisman winner, and on top of all that he’s famous for being a model citizen, Christian missionary, all-around American boy. So his mug tends to appear more than the average NFL draftee who’s going to have a lackluster NFL career, and that would explain the assumption on the part of the editors that their audience would recognize who he is.
I did not know that he had a famous girlfriend, however.
