I barely heard it last night in a noisy cab when I was kind of buzzed on a few shots of jagermeister. All I can remember about it (other than the fact that i liked the song) was a piano riff looped through the whole song, they said “whoo hoo” a lot, I think there was some Jamaican toasting going on, and at one point there was a guy singing who kind of sounded like the guy from rancid. Can someone ID it so I can buy the song and quit thinking about it?
I don’t know the name of the song, but I’m pretty sure it is the guy from Rancid, the band is called the Transplants, and it is featured in the Garnier hair products commercials.
“Diamonds and Guns” is the name of the song, according to Google. Yes, by the Transplants.
Wow, that was fast! I tried tracking it down for about 45 minutes before I thought of asking here and then it took like five seconds.
After checking out allmusic, I’m sure this is the one I heard. I wonder how I never heard the Transplants before. I think I’m going to get the whole album. It sounds pretty interesting.
Thanks!
No problem. That song bugged the hell out of me for a long time, because I heard it in those shampoo commercials, and it sounded so much like Tim Armstrong. Could it be? Nahhhhhh.
But it was!
Let me know if the Transplants album is any good, because I love Operation Ivy and Rancid.
I just got it last night. It’s very VERY good! It’s sorta like punk/hip hop, but that doesn’t really describe it either. It’s the most original punk album I’ve heard in a long time.
I like Op-Ivy and Rancid (Life Won’t Wait is my favorite Rancid album) a lot, but I think I might like this better than either of those bands. I just can’t believe that the Blink 182 guy is involved in this, 'cause it has so much balls.
Get it, you won’t be disapointed. I only wish I would have mail ordered the vinyl version instead of buying the CD at the mall. It’s one of those albums that you can just tell would sound soooo much better on vinyl.
An opinion from the other side of the coin:
I heard that song a while back and liked it as well…found out about the transplants and got the album. Yeesh…I thought it was nearly unlistenable. I made it through the disc twice and promptly sold it.
In full disclosure: I am a O.I. fan, and I’ve been pretty indifferent about most of Rancid’s work.
