I was thinking I’d done this before, but a search turns up nothing…
While reading the Your first movie thread, I realized that I have no idea what was the first movie I saw. I remember it; I just don’t know what it was. If someone can help me out, I’d very much appreciate it.
OK, this is a really, really strange movie. I think it came out in 1974 or '75, or at least that’s when we saw it at the drive-in. I think it was rated X, and it was some kind of low-budget sci-fi flick. The part I remember featured a woman running through some caves wearing only an extemely sheer, flimsy gown, while robots chased her around. The robots had big, cylindrical metal torsos, they had big turning keys on the tops of their heads (I guess they were wind-up robots), and their limbs were made of floppy, corrugated metal tubing. And the weirdest part was that they had huge penises made of the same corrugated tubing. All I remember of the plot was the robots chasing the woman around the caves.
Incidentally, the way I ended up seeing this at the tender age of four or so was that my parents and I went to the drive-in to see a movie. The movie started, and I guess it became pretty clear that it was Not For Kids. I heard my parents having some conversation involving them saying “R” and “X”; presumably they thought it was rated R, but it was actually X. My dad said, “young jackelope, lie down; this is going to be scary.”
“I’m not scared!” I protested, having at that age a keen interest in women wearing diaphanous, almost nonexistent clothing (I was in love with Cher).
“LIE DOWN, BOY.”
So I went to sleep in the backseat of our '72 Datsun 240Z.
Well, what I meant was I’d searched the Board to see if I’d started this thread before; hadn’t occurred to me to try Google, so when I read your post I did.
Are you sure you’re not thinking of SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT II?
Here is a list of X-rated sci-fi films if you’d like to see if any names sound familiar. There was a 70s porn version of WESTWORLD entitled SEX WORLD about robot hookers, but from what you described I don’t think the robots were that realistic.
Flesh Gordon was my first thought when I read the OP.
As a projectionist in the late 70s to early 80s, I remember showing this movie. I was thinking that it had an “R” rating when we showed it and IMDB backs up my memory. They say that it was originally rated X but then re-rated to R.
