I only remember a brief scene and a short stretch of dialogue, but there are enough cinephiles here that someone may know it:
A French (possibly French Canadian?) priest is meeting in a church basement or warehouse with an English woman who seems to be some kind of art dealer. He’s trying to sell her a load of religious art and icons from area churches that, apparently, have fallen into disuse and closed down. The woman tries to tell the priest politely that there’s no real market for such stuff.
At this point, the priest says sadly, “One month, back in 1966, everyone just stopped coming.”
That line registered with me (one of the Catholics who didn’t stop coming. but recognizes the bitter truth of the line).
