There wasa a movie I saw YEARS ago, which I believe starred Michael Caine as a guy that got kidnapped by a group of young revolutionaries. Stockholm Syndrome kicks in, and Michael (or whoever) starts to bond with his captors. Anyways, Michael is a Military leader or scientist or something, and the army/ feds/ police mass outside the warehouse to rescue him, then storm in and kill all the captors even though Michael is begging them not to. The scene that I can’t shake is where the lead captor, badly wounded, is crawling away on his belly, and the head police guy walks up behind him and casually shoots him in the head. Michael (if it is indeed him), screams for him not to, but he does anyway.
Ring any bells? I saw this when I was way too young, and it’s been under my skin ever since.
Caine, playing Charlie Fortnum, is also kidnapped by revolutionaries in The Honorary Consul (John Mackenzie, 1983). It’s a case of mistaken identity in that his captors believed him to be the US ambassador to Argentina.
The film is based on the novel by Graham Greene and was released in the US as Beyond The Limit.
The Island is about a family taken hostage by modern day Pirates (based on a Peter Benchly novel) and Caine does not bond with them. I think the OP is looking for Honorary Consul.
