Any Talk of a Gilligan's Island Movie?

Several old TV shows have been made into movies, with mixed results (The Brady Bunch Movie = Teh Awesome; The Dukes of Hazzard = Teh Suxxors).

Anyone with any inside knowledge of the movie industry (or perhaps a subscription to Variety) know if there’s been any talk of making a movie out of Gilligan’s Island?

There were several with the original cast.

One had been listed on the IMDb years ago, with Brian Dennehy cast as The Skipper, but it was a hoax.

The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island, anyone?

I think somebody could go very far with a movie in which a small ship is wrecked on an island and the passengers find the corpses of 6 people, 3 men and 3 women, several derelict huts and a number of bamboo/coconut contraptions along with a diary describing their time on the island and ultimate grisly end at the hands of the 7th, utterly insane member of their party, GILLIGAN.

And from the jungle, somebody is watching…

Nah, he’d be the first one voted off the island at Council.

They tried, but he kept winning immunity.

A deal has been signed by Sherwood Schwartz.

According to this story, Schwartz wants Michael Cera for Gilligan and Beyonce for Ginger.

I used to think Adam Sandler would make a good Gilligan, but he’s probably too old now.

OK, let’s cast this ourselves!

Gilligan - Justin Long
The Skipper - Brendan Gleeson
Mr. Howell - J. K. Simmons
Lovey - Christine Baranski
Ginger - Isla Fisher
The Professor - Alexis Denisof
Mary Anne - Katie Holmes

Nice cast list, but I’d make one change. Christine Baranski lacks the sweet daffiness to play Lovey Howell. Send in Rita Rudner.

Beyonce? Ew.

I think that a younger Martin Short would have been the perfect Gilligan.

I just realized that my boss is a dead ringer for Gilligan. I’m not sure why I never noticed this until now.

Novel…but I have a better plot involving a conspiracy by one member to keep the rest of them on the island, only it turns out that they’re all the same person but with multiple identities! Whadaya think?

Mom called it, “psychologically taut.”

Stranger

I think I saw that movie already.

Gilligan’s Island? No way, man; you’re thinking too small. It’s been done. But there’s another closely related property that’s perfect for the big screen! It’s got all the name recognition of Gilligan’s Island, plus guaranteed summer blockbuster potential! I’m talking, of course, about a live-action film version of Gilligan’s Planet!

Think about it! All the lovable wackiness and hi-jinks of the original series, but IN SPACE! Laff-a-minute komedy kapers, with a modern multimillion-dollar FX budget! Talk about your crossover appeal! Think of the merchandising! This could be BIG! Bigger than Lost in Space!

I suppose I’m showing my age, but I have absolutely no clue who any of these people are. I haven’t even heard the names before.

I know that Brendan Gleeson played Mad-Eye Moody in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

And Katie Holmes is Mrs. Tom Cruise.

So, I figure Tom would insist on playing the Professor.

But the whole idea is just wrong.

Simon Baker (of The Mentalist) is sort of a Professor look-alike.

Oh and if Michael Cera is Gilligan, then Seth Rogan is surely The Skipper.

Kelsey Grammer as Mr. Howell.
