Have been thinking of a couple of films I saw a few years ago but cannot recall enough of to use any Google-Fu on.
May have been a miniseries – set in Australia, rugged farmer or rancher, raising a twelve/thirteen-year-old daughter, whom I remember as redheaded, as he warns her that boys don’t fancy sunburned, freckled girls. May have been a true story based on the girl’s autobiography.
A Scottish film about a drug addict who falls in love with his counselor. This guy is middle-aged; one of his fellow addicts is youthful and falls in with a bad dealer and, I think, hangs himself at the end of the film lest the dealer’s thugs murder him.
Yes, “My Name is Joe” is correct on the second one. I recognized the actors’ faces as soom as I clicked on the link. Not sure about the first. I still think it was maybe a miniseries, though “An Angel at My Table” does come close to the plot as I remember, and it could have been New Zealand and not Australia. I think the girl had straight strawberry red hair, though. There might have been a massive fire at the farm/ranch. I keep thinking it was around 2000 production but I could be wrong.
Probably not what you are thinking about but McLeod’s Daughters is a TV series set in Australia. Father is dead, having left the ranch to his daughter who runs it. She hires all women. I liked it a lot. You might enjoy it. I got it via Netflix.
