Idol finale

Robert Plant’s voice is like nails on the chalkboard to me. Ditto with Geddy Lee.

Best 3 frontmen, IMO, are/were:

Freddie Mercury (a natural showman with pipes of gold)
Steve Perry (sexy as hell with a superhuman range)
Roger Daltrey (his voice pales in comparison to the other two, but by God he can rock out a tune while making you want to remove your panties)

I think he’s going to need something like Queen, rather than Queen itself. Not to knock Queen at all — I’m a big fan — but their kind of music has been done by other bands, including for example 10cc. Their “One Night in Paris” was a fucking masterpiece. And frankly, I think “Bohemian Rhapsody” seems highly influenced by it.

Anyway, rockers get old just like everybody else. So Adam needs to form a new band.

Speaking of frontmen, there are some women of note as well. Grace Slick comes to mind. Mama Cass. Even Carly Simon. I’m sure there are others.

Debbie Harry
Chrissie Hynde

Loved the parts with Queen and KISS best. Cyndi Lauper was too blonde/goth, and Allison outsang her anyway.

I’m bummed that Kris won, but I won’t worry about Adam’s future.

I’d be curious to see a list of the the Top 10 most successful Idol contestants (by record sales.) Off the top of my head I’d guess (not in order):

Kelly Clarkson (winner)
Carrie Underwood (winner)
Chris Daughtry
Fantasia? (winner)
Jennifer Hudson?
David Cook (winner)
Bucky Covington?
Clay Aiken

That’s all I got.

Looks like you underestimated Clay Aiken

Why? He was on my list. I seriously over-rated Bucky Covington. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oops, I missed the “not in order” disclaimer.

If it hasn’t been mentioned already (sorry) David Cook’s charity single of “Permanent” is finally up at itunes. Good cause - go get it.

Carly never fronted a band. Grace Slick sucks.

Cool! thanks for the link.

And Arista dropped hicks after his first album? Damn.

From Rolling Stone:

Isn’t that interesting. Queen is actively soliciting Lambert to join them.

Evidently Brian May doesn’t agree with you. I think I’m going with May on this one.

Don’t you want somebody to love?

I don’t think your exerpt says what you think it says. There are “rumors” that are “slightly premature”. Brian May says, “It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy.”

I wouldn’t characterize all that as “Queen is actively soliciting Lambert to join them.”

hello everybody!

i am what you call a lurker, and i have been lurker for years; but i just have to unload on this thread: if what that “weird” thing you think adam lambert has been doing all this season, how come you don’t comment on that “weirder” thing kiss gene simmons did on the finale show?!!

and i have to agree with one of the posters, adam lambert is / will be big in asia! i am not going to speak for all citizens of asia, but i am confidently sure if he ever comes to my part of the world, you will see me as one of the mindless teeming screaming crowd!

I think it was a previous thread, but there was some discussion about Adam Lambert’s imminent weight problem. I have to report that having now seen him, in person, mere feet away, that such reports are greatly exaggerated. His body is, how can I say…

[Randy]The smokin’ hot lava bomb![/Randy]

Besides that, he seems exactly as nice and genuine and unassuming as he ever appeared on-camera. I saw a talk-show taping, and he was professional and courteous with all the tech people and P.A.'s and such, smiling and thanking everyone, signing a few autographs and apologizing for not being able to stick around for more.

And that hair, OMG the hair is unbelievable. That black-blue-green iridescent thing is extraordinary in natural light.

I predict there will be unprecedented panty-tossing during the AI tour this summer. The guy has the Rock Star “It” factor, and it’s pretty cool to see that up close.

I thought his skin was a bit pockmarked on my HD TV. Is that true? Or is it just large pores?-
