Idol finale

By the way, just for the record, Adam does not shriek. His upper register is extremely well controoled.

I don’t get the hostile backlash for Adam. Has he ever seemed like anything less than a nice and gracious kid? He opens his mouth? Have you sen the monkey faces that Kris makes?

I don’t get the backlash.

Full agreement with you on that point. Something I keep hearing is how cocky Adam is – how he’s so full of himself.

Bwuh? Comments like that for someone as humble and professional as Adam has been all season? Are you kidding me? People baffle me sometimes…

That thought has crossed my mind too. He’d kill on “Revolution Calling.”

I think a lot of people feel this way. Adam was great right from the start. But most of us don’t even remember Kris’ first few weeks. Then Kris gained more self-confidence, and we gradually started noticing him more. If he had sounded the way he does now, from the start, Adam wouldn’t have stood out as the only good male singer.

I’m perfectly willing to accept the possibility that what I perceive as Adam’s screeching (at certain points) in his performances is due to the poor nature of my tv speakers, or the sound dude on the show. Even if he’s not shrieking though, he IS singing in a high nasal register, to my ears, a significant portion of the time. And I, personally, do NOT like the male voice to stay in said register for long when I’m listening to it. Thus the reason I’m not fond of most of Adam’s performances. Different strokes for different folks. I can appreciate the technical merits of Adam’s performances while still not preferring them for my auditory pleasure.

I will argue one point though. You may state that Kris is mediocre and coffee-shop at best, but at least he’s shown he can PLAY several instruments as well as sing, and of the pack this year has been the next most consistent (or improved week to week) in his performances. Unless I missed it, I don’t recall Adam playing any instrument during his performances. That may not be a big thing for you, but some of us do appreciate that. Feel free to correct me.

Dio, where did you get that Adam Lambert is Jewish? I saw some speculation online, but never any reliable source. I don’t think the fact that he sang a song in Hebrew at some point is adequate proof.

Adam was my favourite too, and I think that Kris was really surprised that he won-- I don’t think his bewilderment was an act.

At any rate, last night I thought that I didn’t mind who won, then I thought that Kris was likelier to win because he arouses less fervor (positive or negative) than Adam.

Just a nitpick: am I the only person who enjoys listening to Adam more than listening to Kris? I tried an experiment with YouTube with the screen off, and without seeing his theatrics, I still prefer Adam’s sound by far. He’s a very gifted musician and makes what he does seem easy. I wish him a successful career.

I miss seeing David Cook every week. Is that really what I should be feeling after the finale? I like both Kris and Adam. Adam seems more like an “Idol” to me - he definitely has more presence. But whatever. At least it’s not Gokey, eh?

Has anyone else checked out the comments at mjsbigblog? (BTW, Liberal, now that you’re back here, I need to thank you - or curse you - for pointing that site out last year. It’s provided way too much procrastination fodder over the season.) Anyway, some folks over there are definitely of the Dio mindset that it’s a Christian conspiracy.

Interesting to read those two statements back to back.

“Revolution Calling?” How About “I Don’t Believe in Love” or " “Eyes of a Stranger?” He would have captured a ton of votes with those songs. Of course, I think if he just sang “Take Hold of the Flame” he would have had this thing wrapped up.

I hope Adam starts a theatrical, stadium style rock band. That would be the best thing to come out of Idol in a long while.

I think it’s the gayness that really bugs them, though. O’Reilly called the pics of him kissing a guy “offensive,” and hilariously pixilated the mouths and tongues when he showed the pics on the air.

I was thinking more along the lines of Anybody Listening?, or Empire, which were my two favorites of theirs back then… both are song I used to be able to play on guitar at the time… :stuck_out_tongue:

Because I correctly identified a bit of hypocrisy? My point was that it makes no sense to hold awkward faces against one contestant but not the other.

Kris has played two instruments. A little piano, but mostly accoustic guitar. I’m a musician too, and as a general rule, I appreciate singers more who can play their own instruments, but it isn’t a requirement to be a great singer, and it doesn’t make anyone a better singer.

Kris’ guitar playing is just average to OK, by the way. Again, it’s coffee shop league.
His piano playing was pretty basic too.

I was wondering about this too, actually. Though I have enjoyed saying “I’m voting for the Gay Jew!” just for laffs and all. (any Kiki and Herb fans here? “It’s not easy being a gay jew 'tard…” anyhoo…)

Me, me! (see post #139)

I mentioned on some other forum that it would actually be kind of bad for Kris to win for this reason. He’d receive a lot of (arguably undeserving) backlash for “stealing” Adam’s rightful place. An Adam win, on the other hand, was presumed as kind of a given. So while some would have grumbled, he wouldn’t have gotten the “conspiracy” accusations. Basically, it’s a repeat of Clay/Reuben, with I’m sure plenty of cries to reveal the vote totals.

My guess is that it was statistically a dead heat. I wonder how they determine if it’s a tie, or if they consider even a one vote majority good enough? I voted for about two hours straight for Adam and never got ONE confirmation text. My SINGLE test vote for Kris was acknowledged today. HMMM!

Simon looked kind of pissed. I don’t think Kris was who the show wanted. A lot of those “culture” voters are never going to buy his album.

But you said he was a “godless Jew”. According to your source, he is deeply religious, attends temple, and performs with a band called Nashuva, which bills itself as “A Soulful Community of Prayer in Action”.

So is Paul McCartney’s.

For what it’s worth, my Baptist part of the family were Danny fans, and then voted for Kris because he wasn’t Adam. I got to hear their conversations, and it was everything I could do to not scream out loud on a nice Sunday lunch. It’s definitely not all the people that voted for Kris, but there is some merit to that debate.

I do think it came down to the fact that people either love or hate Adam, and either love or just think Kris is boring.

I’m glad Kris one. I will be buying his album, I love his voice.

I assume that the notion of calling one contestant “monkey-faced” while professing not to understand how American Idol generates hostility is meant as irony?

In any event, when you consider the median age of Idol voters, the fact that you keep saying Adam would be great at the music of 20 or 30 years ago (which I agree with) is probably as significant a factor as any in in Kris’ win. The kids are voting their age cohort as much as their politics.
