If a coyote snatches your dog does it make sense to put out an APB on it?

Re this Perez Hilton story is there really any chance that the dog got away?

It’s an “all pooch bulletin”, not an actual all points bulletin. There is virtually no chance that the dog is alive, and Simpson is probably in denial.

Still, it doesn’t really cost her anything, so in that regard it makes perfect sense.

I saw The View talking about this and Whoopi Goldberg was trying to be diplomatic and said doesn’t Simpson realize that coyotes … don’t read these flyers?

It is sad that she lost her dog in such a way and there is probably no chance that it is still alive but if Simpson wants to cling to that tiny bit of hope that maybe her dog got away from the coyote and is injured somewhere waiting for rescue, then what’s the harm? Eventually, she will have to deal with it, but this is her way of coping right now.

Also, I just wanted to add that I have an alibi.

J-Simp just lost 12 points off my estimate of her IQ.

It would be preferable to asking people directly if they’ve seen your “carmel colored malti-poo.”

I just got hungry for mexican.

The [del]dingo[/del] coyote ate my [del]baby[/del] maltie!

Is it possible the coyote is keeping the dog in a tent in his back yard?

(too soon?)

She had 12 points?

To her credit, she’s said that she doesn’t believe there’s much of a chance that the dog is ok - but she just wants to cover all of her bases.

I prefer her base uncovered. Mmmmrowww.

The question I haven’t seen raised is, did she let go of the leash?

Or was her dog off-leash (and thus in some level of danger already, unless inside a heavily fenced property).

I’d probably do the same thing - just in case. Yes, the dog is most likely dead, but as someone who has lost two pets recently (not to coyotes, but to various illness/old age) the grief can cause one to do bizarre things.

Hey, you never know, and it’s not like it hurts anybody to have a few signs up. Stranger things have happened than a dog escaping an attack to hide under somebody’s porch, injured.

At this point she’s be more successful asking if they’ve seen malti colored coyote poo.

Tells you something about **pseudotriton ruber ruber’s **estimating ability.

Everyone’s being snarky because it’s Jessica Simpson, but I’m sure if a Doper came in and said, “I saw a coyote carry my beloved dog off last night and while I know there’s virtually no chance she’s ok, do you guys think it’s worth me tossing a few fliers around the neighborhood?” we’d all be screaming a chorus of “absolutely!”.

Like a few have said in the thread- it’s not likely to help, but what’s the harm. And hey, there might be some off chance she got away.

That said, when I saw that article, I felt so bad for her. I can’t imagine seeing my little dog carried away to be violently eaten. Sad. Circle of life, yes, but sad.

All her base are belong to us.
Sorry.

Yes, but Dopers are people. Jessica Simpson’s not people; she’s just a blonde pseudohuman who exists solely to amuse people (and gets compensated quite well for doing so, I might add).

Obviously, none of this has anything to do with her dog, and if you read the posts again you’ll note that nobody expressed disapproval for her hiring a skywriter or flyering the neighborhood or whatever (except the wag who pointed out that coyotes can’t read).

Just out of curiosity, can you imagine seeing your little dog carried away to be peacefully eaten?

I agree with DiosaBellissima. It isn’t likely to help, but doesn’t hurt.

Likely Ms. Simpson is feeling sad and overwhelmed and just needs to feel that somehow she is doing something. It is kind of like here in PA where the Harley plant is in danger of being closed. The locals organized a motorcycle ride from here to the main office of Harley. Now lets face it, Harley isn’t going to say Wow, they rode their bikes here, I guess we should keep the plant open. No, they are still going to make a choice based on business needs.

Sometimes, when you have no control of what is happening, you do things just to *feel *like you do. It isn’t necessarily logical - it is about making yourself feel better.
