If banning seems to make puppets multiply, why no just edit their posts a little?

Wouldn’t that end the problem without starting these pitched battles? It’s so confusing with Banned everywhere.(No offence, guy named BANNED)

What’s that I hear? Somebody’s screaming,“I’ve been Censored! They won’t you read the Truth!”?
That’s why I try to keep editing down to a minimum in the IMHO forum, though I’ll do it if it’s necessary.

Personally, I think another good solution would be to have any new members have a waiting period (several hours, at least, but maybe even as high as a day or two). Mostly, this would make it less-easy to mass-produce sock puppets. You know, separate the wheat from the chaff.

Not to generalize, she said, as she generalized, but once you edit out the offending stuff, there’s usually a blank post there. Besides, we really don’t want to hand-groom the board; with the thousands of posts that we have, who could keep up?

SPOOFE, your idea is not a bad one and some boards operate that way, but that means someone has to manually look at every registration and release it to the member database. That’s very time-consuming. We also run the risk that legitimate posters be penalized by having to wait before they can make posts; that’s not fair to them.

And it’s more than the post itself. Someone who has been thrown off the board already has no right to return in another screen name and start all over again, that’s not how this works. We throw those names out too.

Yeah, there’s a few new screen names with BANNED where MEMBER should be. But it’s mostly the same people.
