I found out awesome news this weekend. Bruce Campbell is coming to Tampa next week for a book signing (If chins could kill… Confessions of a B movie star), Discussion, and screening of a new movie that he created! Usually I’m not a fanatic and could care less about getting a book signed but Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite actors. The Evil Dead series alone makes him eternally cool!
I went out and bought the book yesterday so I could have it signed and started reading it. I’m about 3 chapter in an find it pretty amusing. Has anyone else read it? What do you think? Also being that I have never been to an event like this, is it all it’s cracked up to be or will I be bored?
It sounds great! So I guess you all loved The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr. as much as I did, right? What an insane world we live in, that such a series would florish for so short a time, wither and die. O, the humanity!
Bruce is the sh*t!
I almost got to see him in Ann Arbor for a book signing recently but at the last minute I couldn’t go, and I’ve been kicking myself ever since!
Man, I hope he and Raimi have one last ‘Evil Dead’ flick up their sleeves…
Tampa Theatre on Monday the 17th. All the info is on that website. They will NOT be showing Army of Darkness though because the distributor only had an archival copy (?).
I need to meet Bruce Campbell. See, I’ve got this great script for a movie called Cen-Truck, and he’d be great in the leading role of the half-man, half-truck.
i am sooooo jealous!!! bruce is one of the most underrated actors in the u.s., and a fine looking guy to boot! i heard an interview on NPR with the guy who published his book, where he said that it all started out with him e-mailing bruce on his website, and finally saying " have you ever thought about writing a book?" at this point, the publisher had never sold a book before, (maybe publisher is the wrong word, maybe i mean agent?), so it was a real leap of faith for both of them, and then it took something like 4 years to actually sell the book. i haven’t gotten it yet, but will soon. i’ve heard it’s a great read.
Mmmmm, Bruce Campbell, is he yummy or what? I need to find a copy of his book, but I’ll wait 'til it’s remaindered at Edward Hamilton to buy it.
I wonder if he’s coming to the DC area? Usually, celebrities and big-name authors go to either the Barnes & Noble in Georgetown or the Borders at Bailey’s Crossroads in Falls Church, unless they’re scholars or politicians, then they’ll sign at Politics & Prose.
If Chins Could Kill is a good book, and I refuse to qualify that with “…for a book by an actor.” It’s a pretty good book all around, though I think it could have used a better copy editor than it got. I spotted some errors that should have been culled long before it went to press. Still, it has many amusing anecdotes and provides a healthy slap in the face with the realities of supporting oneself and one’s family through the movie business.
I saw Bruce twice on the book tour this summer. There were some major assholes in line (loud, unwashed, ranting about Ash, I’m sure you can picture the type) but Bruce made it all worthwhile. Although in both cases the line stretched around the shop and out the door, he took the time to talk with everyone personally, had conversations, and posed for pictures to boot. The man’s a class act.
(Also impressive: he’s a lefty, and I watched him sign with a paint pen for an hour straight and he never smeared once. Zero smearage. The man has super powers.)
Sorry, the book’s at home. I wasn’t anticipating the need for a quick re-read, and I didn’t want to run the risk of messing it up in my crappy little bookshelf.
