(not sure if this is better suited for Cafe Society or MPSIMS, goin’ with my first inclination)
He’s doing some reading from “Make Love, the Bruce Campbell Way” and signing books at Barnes and Noble. Myself, Mr. Bunny and several friends of ours are, of course, so there.
I’m starting to get rather antsy…been a huge fan of Bruce for over a decade now, I have no bloody idea what is going to come out of my mouth when we get up there to have him sign our books. I plan on shaking his hand and thanking him for his work, beyond that I got nothin’. Has anyone here on the dope met him before? He seems pretty personable, is he?
If anyone cares and this thread doesn’t sink like a stone, I’ll post links to pictures tomorrow.
He’s a real neat guy. I met him a few years ago at the Austin screening of Bubba Ho-Tep, and had him sign my copy of If Chins Could Kill. He’s very approachable.
During the question-and-answer segment before the screening, I asked him whether he preferred the Japanese (post-apocalyptic) or the American (Shop Smart- Shop S Mart) ending of Army of Darkness. He started to answer, but stopped himself and instead asked me which ending I preferred. I told him I liked the Japanese ending more- that the whole S Mart gimmick seemed tacked on. The crowd started booing me… but he broke in and said, “No, he’s right- the Japanese ending IS better”.
I haven’t met him personally, but I went to the Bubba Ho-Tep premiere in Chicago, and he took some audience questions before the movie started. He seems like a very cool guy, and that’s also based on everything I’ve ever read about him. Just relax, and if you want something sparklingly witty to say I’m sure it will come to you.
A friend of mine met Bruce Campbell at a science fiction convention. My friend said he was funny and attentive, and even though the encounter was brief, it was memorable.
That’s super cool. I’m actually going to see him on Friday in Fresno. I’m taking my Bubba Ho-Tep poster and will probably get a book as well.
A local theater is showing Army of Darkness* tomorrow night. A bunch of my friends and I are going to check it out and one of them is absolutely convinced that Bruce is going to be there…we’ll see.
One of my friends met him at a science fiction event. My friend was dressed up as Ash, including the chainsaw. Bruce insisted (actually I think he jumped him) on posing for a picture with him sawing my friend’s head off with said chainsaw. The guy is just pure coolness personified.
Wish I could make my way to a signing–Bruce is the man.
If you’re a fan of Bruce Campbell and his works, I suggest you all go see Evil Dead 1&2: The Musical, which is opening in NYC in early October (sorry, can’t remember exact dates, but you can google it). It’s really, really funny… especially if you know the movies, but even if you don’t.
My favourite songs in the show:
What The Fuck Was That?
and All the Men In My Life (Keep Getting Killed By Candarian Demons)
Definitely worth seeing. Oh, and they have a gore-zone in the first three rows, where you ought to wear old clothing, 'cause you’re bound to get covered in fake blood.
I do wish he hadn’t put his hand up in front of his adorable face, but it’s still a great picture and I takes what I can gets.
It was great, he did a question and answer session for about 1/2 an hour, extremely funny and smarmy guy, had the audience cracking up the entire time. My favourite parts were when a woman asked him if he had ever considered doing a voice for an animated movie, and he was like “Oh, you mean like The Ant Bully??? Go see it and close your eyes!”, and when a gentleman asked him how it felt to have recently made the transition from actor to director, Bruce said “You mean, how did it feel in 1994 when I did it the first time?” He mentioned that there is actually a sequel (or, I guess, prequel) to Bubba Ho-Tep coming soon. He also pointed out his pivotal roles in the two Spiderman movies: if it were not for him in the first film, the franchise would be called “The Human Spider”, and since in the 2nd film he played a “snooty usher” who kept Peter Parker from entering the theater, he is technically the only person to ever defeat Spiderman!
Wow, and Paul Giamatti is in it, too? Bubba Ho-Tep was better than I expected, and this actually sounds better! (Also, “Hail to the King, Baby” was maybe the greatest advertising tagline ever.)
That’s great. If there’s a working actor with a better sense of humor about what he does, I haven’t heard of him.
