Um, Cornflakes… I have an inkling that those are all translations of the same book. Especially the last two.
At the least, he needs a good pie in the face.
But custard’s too good for him. I’m thinking… mincemeat?
Sure, the guy is wack, but why all the violent reactions? Y’all wanna beat up UFO book authors, or Bigfoot fans? Hey, how about a fatwa against him? That’ll show those Muslims we’re better’n them…
Sure, 50M French folks can be wrong, but I can certainly understand them suspecting the 9/11 events and aftermath were a bit too tidy a package. Hell, they had pictures of all the hijackers on CNN by the time I got home from work that afternoon! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting any conspiracy, just playing devil’s advocate here.
I think that going off on anyone who has a different viewpoint than the good ol’ USA is at least part of the reason terrorists want to attack us.
If Thierry Meyssan registered on the SDMB, people would be saying “DNFTT” by about his third post … I think this is applicable in real life, too.
(How many copies did he sell to become a “best seller”, anyway? I’m betting it’s a lot less than fifty million.)
We’re not calling for his death, dear. We’re just speculating on the probable reaction of this gentleman metaphorically walking up to a still open wound and sticking his ego-blown gentalia into it. As well as the wisdom of doing so. Some of us are a bit more personally offended than that, but I don’t see anything more than joking and the sure wish that this fool gets humiliated.
That said, I would dearly like this fool to be followed by a rain of frogs wherever he goes, or picked up by a UFO and anal probed repeatedly. Give him a real conspiracy to chase.
Well, I dunno. Neither Bigfoot nor UFOs have ever been responsible for the deaths of 2,800+ people. I think implying that those people died as pawns in some political game involving our own government is more than just “wack.” It indicts (without any evidence, I might add) a huge group of people in mass murder. It is libel on a HUGE scale, not to mention it exploits a tragedy to make money.
I think it merits the strongest reaction imaginable. I don’t think this guy should even be allowed to enter our country. (I wouldn’t ban his book tho, that’d be censorship.)
As for it all being “too tidy” because CNN had the hijacker’s pictures, so what? I can call my local sheriff’s office and get mugshots e-mailed to me of anyone who has been arrested in the last 24 hours and put them right on the Internet. Probably as soon as those planes crashed the airlines turned over the passenger lists to the FAA, which immediately began combing the backgrounds of every person on each plane. It’s not hard to get data quickly when you have 200 people working overtime on it.
And with the media clamoring for info, the FIRST thing they would’ve done is turn the passport photos of the hijackers over to the press.
When doesn’t a visiting Frenchman deserve to be pantsed? How else do you welcome them to our fair country? I was pantsed when I came here.
I think what is going to happen in this case is that there will be a lot of press and a lot of sales, just so that the book can be argued about. Possibly burned. Lord knows we love a good bonfire.
Barbarian ponders people getting upset with French author who says Sept 11 was planned. Contrasts it with people in the Middle East who think Israel and the US worked together to plan Sept 11 attacks and frame them. Adds in recent poll indicating that 2/3 of Americans think that Iraq was involved, even though most hijackers came from Saudi Arabia and Egypt…
Whew! I was afraid I was going to have to explain it.
What do you wan’t to bet… he even hates Cannes!
I think pantsing is definitely the best way to go, in this case; preferable to violence. Because it’s funnier, and this dude is such a freaking goofball that he could really stand to be taken down a peg. Failing that, I think the old junior high standby of giving him a swirly would do nicely. A good, wholesome American tradition.
And LOL about Buzz, minty.
(Shit… the only good apostrophe is a Zappa apostrophe.)
Yeah.
I was hoping this book would be published in english so I could read it ( borrowed from the Library, not pad this guys pocket).
The guy is mental.
Boycot any bookstore, and any affiliate of any bookstore that offers this guy an opportunity to tout his book. Get your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to join in your boycot. Inform said bookstores of your intentions, calling their attention to the number of people who support your boycot. Write letters to the editor of your local newspaper(s) condeming the sale of this book and urging others to join your boycot. Be prepared and willing to defend your position to all and sundry.
You must be an agent for him - I can’t think of any better way to attract publicity and increase sales. Why the hell do you think he’s going to NYC anyway?!
Take a look at this article from the CNN web site dated 26th June 2002.
In the article, the book is called “The Horrifying Fraud”, but I guess it’s the same one.
The book sold, up to that date, 200,000 copies in France. There is even a follow on book in which he defends the first book !
Do you see how unoriginal he is???
Yeah, he even uses the same text for each book and just changes the language–do you see how unoriginal he is???
Martiju is right. Boycots are never effective. Maybe if I organize one, I will get a cut of the sales.
FYI, the author is going to NYC because it is the center of the known universe.
Or you could just not buy the book. Let the guy say what he wants. It doesn’t require any special intelligence to see that he’s a total moron. Trying to quash his “message” only validates it.
Also, there are two "t"s in “boycott.”
