IF it is obvious that Biden should step aside, who should take his place?

That’s bit confusing. I do see the “or”, but the first quote does read like you include Harris in those trying to get Biden to resign.

Ok, you say you won’t vote for Harris, but not for that reason, but because you think she’s “too right-wing”.

But that’s weird, because if Biden steps down and the Dems pick Harris, then she is the candidate with a D. So how does that synch with all your high-falutin claims that all dems should be all in for Biden since he is the candidate?

Also, I don’t know how “right-wing” Harris is. She may not be the most progressive, but that’s a far cry from right-wing.

And if Harris is the nominee, then it doesn’t matter how “right-wing” she is, she’s still far better than anyone with an R, but especially Trump. Is that who you want to get elected?

What about the people that wish they’d had a chance to vote for a possible different dem candidate this year, but didn’t get a real primary to eval who would be best for the next four years? Because a primary that starts with the assumption we don’t even need one and then reluctantly runs without holding any debates or real discussion of alternatives isn’t a fair election.

But Biden didn’t just “have a bad debate night”. He’s had other moments of slurring off the end of his statements. People are reacting to more than just one debate.

You are right about one thing: the Republicans are sticking with their candidate despite a lot more than just one bad debate. They are sticking with him even though he’s crook and a conman and a rapist and a felon and a risk to national security and tried to overthrow the last election.

But that’s horrible for the country, and it’s disgusting that that is where our politics have gone. I would much rather have our citizens be able to suggest their party needs to reevaluate who is running without facing death threats and hate mail.

Yes, it does feel a bit like the R’s will back their candidate come hell or high water, but the Dems will drop a candidate for sneezing in public. There should be a bit more balance.

But Biden is still only the “presumptive nominee”. He’s not been officially named by the Party. So there still is time to make a change to the ticket. It’s just a lot harder to do anything that fits the level of voter engagement as a real primary season.

That means a lot of people (primarily repubs) will argue the Dems aren’t doing a good job being democratic, that back-room deals are alive and well.

As mentioned, the best option now for replacement is the person previously chosen by Biden to replace him if anything happened to him. It’s much more natural for Harris to step in than any candidate emerge from the convention newly promoted to the top of ticket.

BBC has announced that Biden is ending his candidacy. Joe Biden ends re-election campaign

My guess/wish for the new ticket…some combo of Harris, Whitmer, Buttigieg.

I also think R’s will try and sabotage this process. Not sure how, but they have better imaginations than me.

Hopefully Biden, Harris, etc al have used the last couple of weeks to carefully plan the next few decisions. To me it seems important that they display stability right now.

So it is no longer if or who.

After discussion with @Aspenglow I’m closing this superseded thread and directing posting to the new threads.

Today will probably get a little crazy and it appears moderator coverage will be minimal. Everyone, please remember to avoid hijacks and attack the post, not the poster.

Thank you
