Err. OK. I didn’t have any current “discussions” with him when the name changed and don’t make a habit of checking his history. I was kinda hoping he’d break his keyboard or something, and that’s about the extent of the thought I devoted to him.

Doesn’t VCO3 mean “Voltage Controlled Oscillator (number) 3”?? I always liked that name a bit because I am a sort of former, erstwhile, pseudo, poser, very weak, keyboard player.
Not all tens of thousands of members, no, and no big deal if you weren’t- its just that it was out there to be figured out. IOW, it wasn’t the secret you would think a name change would want to have, especially after the two or three “why did VCO3 change his name and what does it mean threads” 
I didn’t mean to imply anyone was dumb or not observant if they didn’t know, just that it was pointless to change the name and have it be out there to figure out if you chose to.
I know because I looked into another thread with a batshit crazy title, by TLDblahblahblah, and saw some speculation that it was the old favorite fruitcake VCO3. Then I searched and failed to find the member name, but I found it in a keyword search, and voila, the same old crazy shit threads under a new name.
My gripe, though, is that this tool with the new name is out there starting threads. I might eventually figure out that this is an old tool with a new name, and I agree it is not secret, but I’d like to be able to retain and rely on my original impression.
This case isn’t as egregious, but the powers granted two or three name changes to some nutter a while back who couldn’t stop yammering about how she loved to get railed in the ass. I had learned to avoid her, but I had not learned to avoid her new personas when they found me. I’m suggesting the practice of changing names is not always considerate.

Yeah, I know what you’re saying, but I prefer a looser set of rules. I changed my name once because it was too close to another, and I’m thinking about doing it again because it’s a little harder to do vanity searches. I don’t think there’s sufficient cause to make someone jump through a bunch of hoops to change.
Besides, it doesn’t take long for maniacs to make themselves known, under any name.

Long enough. REcently, I’d begun to notice a user name, thinking ‘what an ass’. THey’d been around a while, but, I mean there’s like lots of folks here and it takes quite a bit to get me to notice some one enough that I recall their username and anything about them (although I do tend to recall political leanings jus’ 'cause of the types of threads I’m likely to open).
Anyhow, no real big, just a vague sense of ‘bleh’. However, a few weeks later, some one mentioned that he’d been under a different user name before, one that I did indeed recall. Had I known I’d not have bothered opening a thread and responding/getting involved etc.
Waverly the poste I think you referred to was dumb enough to post again in a thread about her under her new name. That was kinda special.
