If you don't like it, throw the toy away!

Thanks for your post Yosemitebabe, but no one is even talking about predjudice against the rich.

All IDBB and myself (man, I never thought I’d see the day where I’d be “teamed up” with IDBB) are saying is that when we’ve worked in more well-to-do areas, we’ve noticed a higher number of parents who let their kids do pretty much anything they wanted in the place. That’s not prejudice, that’s experience.

Taxguy is trying really hard to play the victim here and I’m trying to figure out how the hell he can think of himself that way. Running around threatening banning (did I miss when he became a mod?) and screaming discrimination, doesn’t make it true.

I don’t think he got the memo.

Son, we’ll do the moderatin’ around here.

yosemitebabe hasn’t posted here. Was that a reply to featherlou?

I_D_B_B, I know how this is gonna sound…but can’t you try looking for positives? Not just in your job, but in your life. If you expect to always be frustrated, disappointed and shit upon, then that is exactly how things will seem to you.

Whoops.

My apologies featherlou, I don’t know why I was thinking of Yosemitebabe

Well, isn’t it better for someone to vent a little steam here, in the Pit, rather than flip out on the job?

Sighhhhhhh…

Yes, Guin, it is. That’s hardly a novel idea by now. But it seems that I_D_D_B accumulates a much higher volume of “steam” than most people do, and much more frequently. Everything shouldn’t bother her this much all the time.

I don’t know about that, Guin.

Is it really that black and white? Pit or… Flip out.

Give me a break. If those are truly the only two options, there are some pretty serious issues that need to be dealt with.

That’s the one big problem I have with the Pit… people get attention over their rants and then the next thing you know, all they ever do (it seems) is post every single one of their daily rants.

I HATE cheese on my burger, DAMMIT!
To The Jerk who mispelled my name!
HANGNAILS SUCK ASS!
To The goat sucking asswipe that took the last sugar packet.

While, yes, I agree that sometimes it does help to vent and get other’s perspectives, it is not necessary to post rants ad naseum. It’s really not.

I worked in retail. This was prior to the net. Believe it or not, no one at my work ‘flipped’ out. Somehow, we managed to just deal with it. I think that is what Taxman is getting at. I may be wrong, but I take his posts as: THIS is retail. You will always have asshole customers. ALWAYS. If their actions bother you so intensenly that a biweekly rant is needed, maybe a fast food job is not an option. Because, you see, the general customer is NOT going to change. It hasn’t since I lasted worked fast food and that was 15 years ago.

While posting in the pit helps get others to commiserate with you (That Jerk mispelled my name, too!) there gets to be a point where people on the whole get fed up (If you don’t like cheese on your burger, quit going to that damn place already).

If so much venting is truly needed, as has been suggested many times, a live journal is nifty. The problem is, a live journal doesn’t get the traffic the dope gets. It all boils down to, in some cases, to LOOK AT ME! PAY ATTENTION TO ME!

The fact is, IDBB has posted many times about her horrible job. At this point, what else is one expected to say to her? “Sorry your job sucks ass” tends to wear thin after a while.

No, I’ve never worked behind a cash register, but I have waited tables extensively.

Here’s how the two situations differ: one can choose their job. They can choose to work with the general public, or they can choose to not work with the general public. If one chooses to work with the general public and then gets upset that some members of the general public are rude assholes, then that strikes me as unreasonable.

One has to meet people in day to day life no matter where the person chooses to work.

Here’s another example: say you are a salesman. You should know that despite your best efforts, some of the sales you work hard for are going to fall through at the end even though you’ve done a bunch of work on them. Does it suck? Yes. Should you get all upset over it each time that happens? I’d say that doing so would be unreasonable because if you choose to work in sales, you should know that a certain percentage of the sales that go almost all the way to completion will fall through.

Before anyone asks, yes, I sold cars for two summers in between semesers.

Don’t call me son, fuckhead.

God, thanks for showing that someone out there understands what I’m saying.

But you misspelled my name, you jerk. :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t threaten to ban anyone; how could I? I don’t have that power. All I said was that others have gotten banned in the past for doing things very similar to what you two are doing.

Wow, did you just get upset by something someone else said? Shouldn’t you have chosen to not be uspet by being called “son”? I mean, it’s a given that someone’s eventually going to use a term you don’t like, so shouldn’t you just choose not to get upset about it?

How very ironic.

BTW, it’s generally not a good idea to go around gratuitously insulting the mods, especially after you’ve just overstepped yourself. It’s tasteless and rude, but also really fucking stupid.

Jesus, CCL, I have explained on at least five separate occasions in this thread that what I am saying is that when someone chooses to work with the general public, they are being unreasonable if they get upset every time a member of the general public does something stupid. This has nothing to do with me getting upset at the other posters in this thread.

It’s not ironic at all, it’s just you once again misunderstanding the narrow point I’m making. You’re tying to make it seem like I’m saying something broader than I am. I’m not saying that one is stupid if they ever get upset at anything.

About the last part:

(1) I don’t think my insult was gratuitous; rather, I believe it was a justified response to another insult. Manhattan’s use of the word “son” was an attempt to “put me in my place” and say that, metaphorically, Manny is my daddy. Bullshit.

(2) I don’t think I’ve “overstepped myself.” I think that is an unreasonable interpretation of what I said. (but see below on this)

(3) We all know the number one rule around here is “Don’t be a jerk.” If a mod is being a jerk, I’m going to call him on it just like he would call me on it if I were being one. Calling someone “son” is being a jerk.

(As an aside, I happen to be white, but among black men in the U.S. the word “son” carries connotations of Jim Crowe laws in the South in the '60’s. Manhattan, I’m not trying to “moderate” you or anything, but you would be well advised not to use that term in the future just in case you say it to a black man, because he would probably take it even worse than I have.)

Also, I’ve really enjoyed my short time as a member of this board, but if anything I’ve said in this thread gets me banned, then I won’t be upset because I wouldn’t wanna be a part of the SDMB anymore. In the future I will not say things that could be interpreted as me telling someone else that they could get banned for something because I guess that is a little too close to the line, but I won’t kow-tow (however that’s spelled) to a mod just because he or she’s a mod. A jerk is a jerk, no matter how many stripes on his or her sleeve. I don’t plan on insulting mods for fun, but I’m not going to sit back and take an insult simply because the insulter is a mod.

So let me get this straight. You’re not black, but you’re choosing to be offended by the word “boy”, which is used to be offensive to blacks. (Honestly, you could be 12, in which case you would be a “boy” - how the hell is Manny supposed to know?)

You’re not rich (or maybe you are) but you’ve decided to be offended by IDBB saying that in the “richie” mall there are more assholes.

And finally, you’re ragging on IDBB because she’s offended by an idiot customer putting a pissy diaper on her food counter.

Listen dude - your tax thread was very informative, but your posts in this one are ludicrous.

Finally - playing the martyr card after one passing post from a moderator is really in poor form. If you’re going to do a flaming, screaming, melt-down type dealie, you really need to call a few more of us ass-hats, come up with a few more conspiracy theories, and post a few more nonsensical posts, um kay?

And wait just a second. He didn’t even call you “boy”.

He called you “son”.

Fuck dude - Manny could be a 65 year old grandpa that calls everybody “son”.

Talking about HUNTING for something to get offended about.

Wait a minute. I think I just stepped into an alternate universe here. Is the Taxguy posting in this thread who’s calling people “wealthist” and flipping out on manny for calling him “son” the same Taxguy who posted this in the PC Police thread:

Are you trying to prove a point by calling people “wealthist” and getting angry here, Taxguy? It seems that your behavior in other threads has been markedly against people getting offended over certain things.

So why are you getting offended now? Are you going to turn this into an elaborate “see why you’re wrong” thing?

Taxguy

Either your huge ego is way too delicate, or you’re looking for a fight.

Manhattan posted in “western style” because you’re previous post was in that style. Jesus, why don’t you calm the fuck down. No one here is “out to get you”

Man, there’s nothing worse than a rich white guy who’s desperately trying to act like he’s being persecuted.

oh well, 45 min of my life rambling along try to type up a responce which in retrospect this thread isn’t even worth the 3 min I spent reading it.

For someone standing up against wealthism you have an odd anti-authoritarian streak in you.

Oh, wow The Wrong Girl, that’s just comedy.

After reading that quote from the PC Police thread all I can say is

TaxGuy, have you been wooshing us this whole time???

Oh, absolutely, Rilchiam, and FWIW, I agree with you completely about IDBB. But see, I like reading rants from customer service workers, and quite frankly, I thought her post had merit. Yeah, I think she needs a Live Journal, big time. shrugs

I flipped out maybe once or twice, that’s it. I really don’t have a dog in this fight. It’s a not a big deal to me. Carry on.
