Unless you remember Hill Street Blues, *The Muppet Show * and Night Court, it was before your time.
Yeah, it was a long time ago, and I fear those days are long gone. . .

I can believe no one was annoyed. Back then the friendly skies were actually friendly, and flying was not something to dread nearly so much.
My wife works at home, but I’ve had flowers delivered there in the middle of the day for an anniversary (either when we got engaged or when we met) she didn’t even remember. I think the surprise factor counts also. While bringing flowers home may not be all that common, flowers arriving without you is even less common. Plus, the flowers don’t get lost in the rush rush that happens when you walk in the door of dinner and kids and dog walking. And I agree that contemplation of the flowers for a while helps.

The reason to send them to her job is that it allows other people to see her get flowers. Her coworkers can squee over them and let her feel like she’s lucky. It gives her a little glow of positive attention and brightens her day while she’s there.

Your title is so, so revoked.

What he said. Having a vase of flowers on my desk for several days gives me several days of smiles. Obviously, sending them on a Friday isn’t going to help much, because then she will have to take them home, or they’ll be wasted. I can manage, because I have a car, a cardboard box, and the ingenuity to make a great flower-carrier thingy out of the box, but if I had to take public transportation, it would be too difficult to carry them home.
