I wouldn’t mind opening an “Ask the dealership service advisor”, thread, just to give all those people who have suffered at the hands of car mechanics and dodgy dealers a chance to hear what really goes on behind the counter.
(Hint, it is far less unscrupulous than you might think)
ask the Thundercats fan
ask the conlanger (person who makes up languages)
ask the college student
ask the girl who’s financially supporting her older sister
ask the virgin
I’ve actually thought about this, too. I’ve got a few that come to mind. However, the one that I think might be able to fight the most ignorance is one I doubt would get much interest:
- Ask the Strategist
The reason I suspect it wouldn’t get much interest is probably the same reason it could be used to fight ignorance: Everybody thinks they can do it! As a trained professional (“back off man - he’s knows strategy and is not afraid to use it!”), I spend more time helping folks get past what they think they know about strategy vs. actually doing strategic analysis, planning and exeution - and yeah, if you don’t execute the strategy, it doesn’t count!
So it would be more about the craft of strategy - regardless of the field it is being applied in (in my case business - but we study war strategy, etc.)
I may just do that! In the meantime, here are my pix of some Pro / Amateur contests that I had participated in. Keep in mind that very few pictures are of my stuff. (The Split - was my 2007 Entry) The pix are somewhat large so you may not want to go there if you have a slow connection.
The pros are fantastic. I’m pretty much a beginner, and you can tell by my location that a trip to the beach is a very rare occasion.
I’ll be on the beach sometime in early May. After that,if I get the time I’ll create a SD section in the flickr page and start an ask the gritty guy thread.
Hmm. You know, and I don’t mean to be insulting, it seems to me that there are quite a few posters whose individual aspects IMHO aren’t interesting enough to warrant an entire “Ask the…” thread each but who could make quite an interesting one if the thread was instead “Ask [username]” with all of the potentially interesting facets of that poster listed in the op for questioning. I could really get behind that. I generally find individual people much more interesting than who they are piecemeal. Anyone else feel the same way?
Ask the muni court magistrate
Ask the former Civil War reenactor
Ask the father of three boys
Ask the former prosecutor
Ask the guy with two middle names
With the help of a fine metallic fellow, I already did “Ask the Protocol Droid,” my only “Ask the…” thread to date.
Ask the person whose cool thread idea was stolen by someone else.
Ask the (former) stage father
Ask the microprogrammer
Ask the integrated circuit/computer designer/ test person
Ask the conference program chair
Ask the person with way too many sf books and magazines
My sympathies to you. I grew up in Burnley
I’ve done one in the past – “Ask the Shi’a Imami Ismaili Muslim Girl”, though I guess I could also do “Ask the X-ray and radio astrophysicist”
