I’m going to college in a few weeks, and I found out that a Doper lives in the dorm room next to mine. He doesn’t know, and I’m not sure if I’m going to tell him because I’m afraid I will censor my posts, or think twice about posting certain things.
It’s a small hijack, but does anyone have any advice?
Like Primaflora, I am paranoid about my privacy and don’t want to make it too easy for people to figure out who I am. Some people do know who I am, and that’s OK, but I don’t want any random guest to wander on here and read stuff that I’ve written and know that it’s me. I have a few websites that get a fair amount of visitors, and people pester me enough about them as it is—I don’t need them searching for more stuff to pester me about. (If that makes any sense.)
I do try to always be careful what I write here—not super-paranoid, but I don’t usually talk about intensely private stuff (my life is not an open book) because you never know who might wander by and figure out who I am. Besides, since my life is not an open book, I wouldn’t be spilling the beans here or anywhere else anyway. And as far as “censoring” my comments for people I know—well, I think I “know” a lot of you and I like you, so I suppose that I sometimes do naturally censor what I say, just like I would with anyone else I know. Some things just are not diplomatic when seen in print.

One of my best friends also reads the SDMB although he only posted once. There’s only one thing I censor on here, although I might open up about it more if I need to. It just concerns privacy, but I think I trust him now; although it’s not something I’d bring up in normal conversation anyways.
Yes, yes I would. In fact, after the number of my posts and the length of my stay here reached the point to where I realized that people remembered me, I began censoring myself. I do not like it.

my fiancee
my ex-girlfriend
my mother
my brother
my best friend from college
several dopers I am otherwise very close to
I censor personal/intimate/WTMI things to an extent. Other than that, though, I’m notoriously loudmouthed/outspoken. But then, with a post count this big, I’d pretty much have to be:D
