I’m moving to Seattle at the end of the month to take a new job. In order to keep the new job, I need to pass the Washington State Bar Exam at the end of July. I also need to finish working at my old job; study for the bar; find time to go to Seattle and find an apartment; study for the bar; pack to move; study for the bar; move; study for the bar; start work (part-time) at my new job; and study for the bar.
Basically, every free moment I have I should be studying for the bar. But am I? Noooooooo.. I’m dinking around here at the STMB to relieve stress and procrastinate and generally avoid thinking about how much I have to do. Meanwhile, my stress level rises because I know I should be studying and I’m not. And it is fully within my powers to procrastinate myself right out of a job by tanking the bar.
So I hereby swear off this particular addiction until after the exam. I know if I can’t post I’ll be less likely to even read (because if I read, I’ll want to post). Please, if you see me posting, hit me upside the head with something large and heavy and remind me that I should be studying.
And ya’ll have a great summer; see you in August or thereafter.
Good luck, Jodi! We’ll miss you around here 'til you’re back.
I do the same thing you do with regards to procrastinating and letting it stress me out, so I know exactly how you’re feeling right now.
Why don’t you ask Tuba to remove your posting privileges and put “On Sabbatical” under your user name? That way, you won’t have any choice to post or not!
I think I and all other Seattle dopers can be counted on to help you out with any scolding or upside-of-the-head-hitting you need. After all, if you pass the bar we get to have you around, if you don’t you’ll have to stay where you are.
We’ll have to plan a dopefest sometime soon after you pass.
Good luck! I think I’m going to have to ask to have my posting privileges suspended when I’m going through the same experience next year. The problem is that you can’t suspend reading privileges.
I live in an area with 3 riverboat casinos (I don’t really gamble…I think I’ve been on the boats maybe twice for s&g)
Your post reminded me of what some problem gamblers have to do. They essentially get themselves banned from the boats, they tell the owners to have security refuse to let them on the boats…under any circumstances.
I dunno about the boards though…can we flame yer ass in the pit if you post…or what that just lead to more rebuttal posts from you…defeating the purpose?
Seriously, good luck in your move to Seattle…the aggregate intelligence of Montana is about to decrease…and it’s already pretty damn low
