I had to fill out an application. As I recall, the only personal stuff was my real name, address and phone. There was a grab bag of other questions.
They had to have my address to send me my coffee mug. (I don’t know if they still do that.) Also, the first New Year I was a mod, I received a monthly wall calendar illustrated by Slug. That was apparently the last year for that.
I use a deaf forum and the moderator there has favorites , he will let them get away with insulting people all the time . I been banned a few times for insulting a person back . Yes this is a power trip and corrupting , I feel the mod should PM a person to warn them and not do it on the forum for everyone to see so he can get ‘like votes’ . I will most likely get banned for good from the deaf forum as I not sure how much longer I can go with out calling the mod off!
Alright already! This elaborate ruse to coerce me into becoming a SDMB moderator is crystal clear. It’s a dirty job I’m loath to engage in, but if it means that much to you all…go ahead and induct me already!
Just tell me where to pick up my badge, taser and sexual instruments of rehabilitation. I’ve already compiled my list of naughty-doers in need of “correction.” You know who you are. Bend over.
I would suspect the same thing about the nominating committee that Dave Barry suspected about the committee that awarded him a Pulitzer: “They must be drunk out of their minds.”
That said, I am very grateful for the work of the Dopers who have accepted the position.
I am a father of two young children and teach English to kids, so my limits of tolerating people walking just on the line are over taxed. Warnings would mutiply on my bad days so no.
If you look at the main page for each forum it shows you the moderators for that forum. There are between 2-4 for each, though some are “duplicates” (e.g., Colibri does GQ and Comments on Cecil’s Columns/Staff Reports).
