I am a mod on a different board and it’s a horrible time sink. And I don’t have time for another mod gig. So… I’d probably say “yes”, because I’m an idiot.
A long time ago, you guys solicited me. But I was already a mod on some other things, and this is a lot of work.
Now, you guys would likely shudder to consider the idea.
If I were asked, my first question would be:
What are the time increments, i.e., X hours a week, X hours a day, that sort of thing?
I was an assistant mod on another board years ago, but it was nothing like here – smaller pool of members, more narrow focus, very little crowd control. The main duties were to diligently delete any and all spam and to steer newbies to registering before posting in the introduction thread. The board eventually closed, but even before that my modding time had to be cut because of my work schedule.
I have a good friend who currently mods an online community. He says that, if he were ever paid for all the time/years he’s put into it, he’d be a millionaire. He still does it gratis because he thoroughly enjoys doing it.
I would politely but emphatically decline. I was a mod on a smaller board and was pretty surprised to learn what jerks some people could be. Nitpicking every freaking decision no matter how minor, constantly testing the boundaries, arguing, bickering, pissing and moaning. Everyone knew how to run the board better than we did. Never again.
I have a lot of admiration for the mods here.
I would not want to be a moderator of any board that would have me as a member.
mmm
No way.
I’d do it for a grand a month.
Amen to this. I could do it, sure, but man, the hell I would catch…
The hell with it. I’d do it anyway.
“One Mod” = Borg.
