I see they are working now. I saw the option and tried them just to check.
But they have a funny effect. When someone is on your ignore list, you still see that they have posted, but there is now wording that tells you their message is being suppressed, and click here to remove the ignore entry.
That’s not how it works on other boards. Seems like instead of ignoring them, they are being brought to your special attention.
Of course on other boards you still often know they were there when people answer them, so the whole ignore premise is a bit shaky.
Having just blissfully availed myself of the Jackass Filter for the first time I’m cool with how it works. I don’t mind seeing the froth on a lunatic’s lips so long as I don’t have to listen to the actual ravings.
Without going into specifics, I’ll just say that one gets used to it. I sometimes see a quote in someone’s post including language from an ignored poster and I’m surprised because I didn’t even notice the name by the ignored post. I just skim right over it.
That’s how the software works in the current version available to us. I’m sorry if even that little mention is offensive to you; apparently vB thought you’d like to know the option was there to see it if you wished.
You’re such a drama queen. Must you always have that chip on your shoulder? Not everyone wants to fight you, so you shouldn’t pick a fight with them. The word I used was “funny”, not “offensive”. And I didn’t ask you to do anything about it. I said that it was just as funny on other boards. So relax. Not every observation about new board features is an attack on it. And it’s never an attack on you. I never even notice you until you pop up with one of these overwrought interpretations.
Drama queen? That’s, um, funny coming from someone who felt motivated enough by how the Ignore feature works to complain about it.
It’s my job to monitor complaints in this forum and try rectify as I can or explain why we can’t. If I hadn’t said anything there would be bitching about how I disregarded your complaints. “Heads I win, tails you lose” is a most unsatisfyiing game.
That’s precisely the thing I like about it. I like seeing the little note about so and so is on your ignore list. I get a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that I don’t have to read that person’s post.
And I don’t see the response quoted above as being a “drama queen” response. Damned if you do, indeed.
The rule about not discussing who is on your ignore list could lead to a comedy of errors. Still, the upside is a good drama can uncover some truths by what it shows about the protagonists’ character.
I don’t quite get the need to put someone on an ignore list. Right now there is one person on my internal ignore list, I will never respond to anything he says even if it is “I like cheese.” However I wouldn’t want to block out any of the stupidity he spouts. It might make some threads pretty confusing. Thats just me. Probably nobody read this because I’m on all of their ignore lists.
As someone who has been a harsh critic of Tuba in the past, I have to say that you are way out of line here. I literally thought this was a parody post at first.
Well, you know according to the rules we can neither confirm nor deny that.
Actually, I think I am wrong. We can deny it, can’t we?
[del]BTW: Do you like cheese? Did you ever post to one of QtM’s cheese threads? By Og, why on earth would you ignore one of our best posters? [/del] Oops, wait never mind, strike that.
Jim {Now I am on a few more ignore lists. aren’t I?}
