IIHF (Juniour Hockey) Tournament

Holy fucking crap. Canada scored with 5 seconds left in the game tonight against Russia, and then went on to beat them in a shoot-out. The game on New Year’s Eve against the US was also a nail-biter. This has been some of the best hockey I’ve watched in a long time: biased naturally since Canada managed to pull a rabbit out of a hat on both occasions.

What do the rest of you think of this tournament happening in my back yard?

(Scotiabank place is in a rural corn field 10 minutes from my house.)

That definitely one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen. Completely unbelievable how Canada never gives up, and wins games because of it.

I’ll be there for the gold medal game. Very glad to be cheering on Canada instead of Sweden

Do you think they go with Pickard for the next game? It was pretty shaky goaltending tonight; it didnt’ have to be that close.

Holy crap…even my girlfriend who doesn’t give a damn about hockey got into this game. I can’t wait for Monday.

FTR, I still hate the shootout.

I was at the Slovakia-Finland game so I missed much of the Canada-U.S. game. During the intermission they did put TSN on the scoreboard. When they turned it on, the Americans were leading 3-0 and we got to see Tavares score twice to bring it to 3-2.

I did catch all of the Russia game, and I’m very glad about that. I just moved into a new place this weekend and called Rogers yesterday asking them to transfer my cable account to my new address, and damned if they didn’t have the cable working half an hour after I called.

I feel bad for Slovakia. They played their hearts out against Sweden, but the Swedes were just the better team. The goal that ended up being the winner was an incredible display of skill.

Congratulations Canada! It was a tighter game than the scores showed, IMO, but the better team won. Though they should have had a couple more penalties for hitting the Swedish goalie, again IMO.
