I’ve spent a couple days playing this free game called Iji. It’s something like Cave Story, but the graphics remind me of Out of this world (a prequel to the Genesis game Flashback). It’s a platform shooter with a storyline involving the humans (you) and 2 alien races. None of the three get along, so both alien types will attack you on sight. But you can sometimes wait out a battle between aliens, then mop up whoever is left. The game is divided into sections, and you can gain 5 levels each section. Leveling gets you a point to spend on Assimilation (more ammo), Health (More health), Strength (can kick higher level doors down), Cracking (lets you hack open doors and combine weapons), and both alien weapon technologies (lets you use the alien weapons). You can also combine most or all of the weapons to make super weapons. Not super long, but it’s a fun game and free.
Get it here.
just announcing my release of ‘PassivePack’ - alternative music pack for Iji:
This is a subtlely sedate’ish music pack designed specifically for for those wanting a different feel upon replaying through on hard and other levels.
It’s sanctioned by Daniel except for hero3d.mp3, which I courteously removed due to the fact that the
original is a cover of a Machinae Supremacy song “Hero”, which he likes, and doesn’t want anything replacing it!
Feel free to redistribute elsewhere.
All music by Me! (www.mattbentley.net)
Cheers,
Matt
I also recommend this game. You should play it at least twice, because
if you play it as a regular “kill 'em all” shooter the first time through, parts of the story go quite differently than in a pacifist run.
Also, Iosa the Invincible is awesome.
Some people complained that the first link was a bit slow,
have added a secondary download location for that reason:
