Please put me down for a “what the hell is wrong with you people?” Why would…never mind, I don’t even want to know.
Do you, like all the other detractors, just not like eggs in general? Because I’m wondering if there’s anyone who likes both who would not eat this.
As for me: why not? I’m always up for trying new things with eggs. In fact, I have hamburgers, bread, and eggs, so I may just try it for breakfast later. I really can’t imagine it tasting bad–all other meat with eggs I’ve ever had tasted good. And, anyways, if it does, I can pull the egg out.
EDIT: Same question for aceplace, whose post I missed. I’m guessing no, though, since the idea of taking the egg off the burger and eating it separately didn’t occur to him.
We don’t call it ketchup, we call it tomato sauce.
I would eat the burger with egg, but I would not normally order a burger with egg.
(I love bacon and egg rolls though).
hell yeah! because the only thing better than meat and potatoes is meat and meat!
Fry bacon
Fry the burger in the bacon fat
Fry the egg (over easy) in the bacon/burger fat
Serve open faced
Just before eating apply the top bun with gentle pressure to break open the yolk.
Heaven!
I’d probably decline. I like eggs, but I don’t like runny yolks, and it’s hard to get a fried egg with a hard yolk unless the edges of the whites turn crispy, which I also don’t like. I’m fairly picky about my burger toppings…I only want Cheddar or American cheese, I don’t like Romaine at all, and I will pick off tomatoes, unless they actually taste like tomatoes. So I appreciate the thought, but no thanks.
Not only would I, I actually have on numerous occasions. When I was in college, there was a diner (still there, actually) that specialized in burgers with fried eggs, called Gusburgers. Most people considered them a treat after a late night of drinking, but I always liked them anytime. And I’ll make them at home every now and then.
I’ve also had the Red Robin burger mentioned above, which is good, but it’s no Gusburger.
Make it a veggie burger and I’ll go for it.
Microwave it after you’ve got the whites to the level you want.
Anyways, i just tried it, and it really isn’t that great, at least, with microwave finished eggs. I wound up turning the burger over and to the tomato side (the only other topping I had), which worked, but then the burger felt funny going down my throat.
Still, I wouldn’t turn the burger away, because there are three types of food in the world: bad food, good food, and free food, and I always accept the last two.
My local greasy spoon calls a burger with egg on top a “Tom Dooley”
You want to break the yolk before you flip it to get a good over hard egg where the white isn’t over done. It’s easy enough to do, but few people seem to know that this is the way to do it.
So make a proper egg (to your taste, I like them runny) the next time you make burgers and give it a shot.
Topping something with an egg is one of my favorite things to do, though I usually use a poached egg.
If you steam baste your eggs, it’s pretty easy. Fry as usual, add water to the pan and cover with a lid towards the end of cooking (after most your white is set, but not burnt. The whites on the top of the eggs won’t be set, though.) The water prevents the white from burning, and the steam cooks the top of the egg to your desired level.
Anyhow, as to why eggs on a burger, there is something about the unctuous, oozing egg yolk, mixed with beef (preferably on the rarer side of doneness) that is sublime. I think the effect is completely lost with a hard-yolked egg, so that combo doesn’t do it for me, but with a liquid yolk, it’s one of life’s greatest pleasures.
Serious question, are we talking fried egg inside the bun or not? I ask as this:

Totally blew my mind in Iceland. Here’s what it looked like when it arrived:

I’ve been reading restaurant reviews recently to create a list of places for a Hawaiian vacation. Although I haven’t yet tried it, I’ve had a mad craving for Loco Moco for over a week.
Those are some smart germs. It’s like they’re circus germs. Gonna live in a germ city down in…
I would, but I’d rather have cheese and ketchup instead. Could I just slide the egg off and eat the burger?
You can slide that right onto my plate there, missy. I’ll have an egg under and over my burger! /snarls at others reaching for her burger/
Obviously it’s very smart Hollandaise sauce.
It’s “Heir,” not “Heiress.” That is, I’m a dude.
Yes, inside the bun is how I’ve always encountered it. When I looked at your link, I just thought you were linking to an open-faced hamburger with egg on it. Only when I looked at it again did I realize the fried egg was on top of the bun. How the heck does one eat that? I assume knife and fork? Kind of defeats the point of a hamburger.
