Forgive me if this has been shown on the SDMB before, but I came across this site and felt I must share it with my fellow dopers. AFAIK, it’s a radio show and this is the website for it.
Disclaimer: I haven’t explored the site too in depth to see if there is any liberal viewpoints, and I’m not 100 percent sure where the radio station is based. Yes, simple time and effort could answer both of those questions, but I found the site and was so excited I felt I MUST share it.
I like the one about the suddenly concientously objecting US Marine who “didn’t know” about the inherently violent nature of the military. Pretty funny, if true.
Oh yeah you really got me there Francesca. I mean, really, you sure did show me up and no ammount of rhetoric can pull me out of this hole I suddenly find myself in!
Look at the title of this thread, and then look at the site I linked to. Obviously neither are objective, and I didn’t put this here so you can tell me what I already know. This is in MPSIMS becuase I didn’t want someone like you to come in and start badgering me because I posted an obviously pro conservative website for a radio show. If I had stated “Look all ye liberal dopers and wonder at amazement conservative truth,” your little comment would have been warranted.
The radio show (from what I can see) is simply a conservative soap box such as Rusch Limbaugh’s show (I’m not sure if it’s even on the air anymore.)
The news he talks about is real, just like the story about the Marine. There is a couple threads here that mention it and have links to articles about it. Sorry, I’m too lazy to actually post one here.
I’ll say it one more time: I geniunely wasn’t sure if you were being sarcastic or not. Had I posted a link to that site saying what you said, I would have been being extremely sarcastic. Any site that puts forward unsubstantiated claims that WOMD have been found in Iraq without giving any cites or sources at all, that calls Jacques Chiraq “Saddam’s pal” and that dismisses anti-war protestors for not thinking George Bush is Our Saviour doesn’t get a lot of respect from me.
So you posted it in MPSIMS because you didn’t want someone like me coming in and raining on your parade? I wasn’t aware only people who liked the site and agreed with you were allowed to comment.
However, MPSIMS isn’t the place for these political debates and I apologise for launching at you. Had I known you weren’t being sarcastic, I wouldn’t have been so snarky since it simply turns out we stand on opposite ends of the political spectrum.
Neal Boortz (a Libertarian) is very entertaining, and his book “The Terrible Truth about Liberals” is worth the read - it’s very much like his “Nealz Nuze” section which I read daily. He’s based out of Atlanta, where he has been on the radio for 30 years. He expanded down into Florida where I first heard him 3 years ago. At the beginning of 2003 he started going national, and can now be heard from almost anywhere. He has approximately 5 million listeners a day, right up there with Sean Hannity who is second only to Rush (not sure where Michael Savage fits in the picture, he may have taken 2nd place).
And Francesca, while it’s easy to discount anything you disagree with as “willful stupidity”, it is very hard to disprove what he’s written. He backs up everyone of his arguments with very sound logic.
Hell, I just think he figured he was “safe” posting it in MPSIMS rather than asking in GD just how much of it was actually substantiated and had truthful elements behind it.
Oh, look! Another snide comment from someone who disagrees with my religous beliefs? Yeah, I’m not used to that at all, iampunha. You’re possibly one of the more arrogant dopers here. Well, we won’t start a fight over it now will we? After all this is MPSIMS, and that was what your intention was to begin with. Wasn’t it? Provoking someone into some morality issue because you know before hand how it’ll end and you think you can take some moral high ground because of it.
It’s a conservative soap box, silly. That, and it’s not a web based site, (in that it was created with the intention of people who are solely internet minded) but rather a radio based website to support what this guy said on the air. I would have expected the actual radio show to be “Well, well, well… I heard this on the news about Saddaam and it doesn’t suprise me one bit!” It’s also pretty obviously biased and one sided, hence why I said “not for liberal eyes.” Yes, I know the news lately has been quite sensational about the war; I was just explaining my interpretation of the radioshow/website.
Heh. Heh. Heh. I was playing along with the tone of the site and with what you said, however part of that was right, and I didn’t create this for a political debate. I just wanted to show the site for someone who is an obvious lover of conservatives like Rusch Limbaugh. It was nothing personal, I was just having fun. I have seen enough of what you’ve posted to know you weren’t attacking me purposely, but felt with a slightly arrogant “here comes another liberal” would have been in line with the topic.
BTW, I said religous beliefs because I’ve found that you try to bait posters you know disagree with your lifestyle in threads that have nothing to do with it whatsoever.
Pathros, show me one time in this thread (previous, of course, to this post of mine) where I mentioned anything about your religion, my “lifestyle”, or any of the other things you mentioned.
You might ask Monty, btw, just how often I take a moral highground with him or attack his religious beliefs or his stance on my “lifestyle”.
The implication of the first quote is that Liberals are stupid. The accusation of the second quote is that Francesca called something stupid just because she disagreed with it.
Read my last post. I stated why I said “religous beliefs,” and it was because you were baiting me plain and simple. I don’t need to ask Monty how many times your lifestyle is brought up because the answer will probably be “we both post on so many various issues, I would have a hard time saying exactly unless the topic at hand dealt directly with the subject matter you asked of.” Before last week I had not posted in about a year, and that was because I was quite involved with earning my degree, and for some reason I’m a naturally impatient with the internet and the straightdope was taking it’s time whenever I wanted to browse the forums. You can see the number of posts I have, see the debates I got involved in last I came here, and you decided to comment “Lookie here… it’s Pathros the one trick pony” and implied quite a bit with that. It wasn’t really necessary for this thread, and thus why I retorted the way I did.
I was expecting that, actually. I figured if I posted something obviously pro conservative I would get a reaction similar to what francesca said. It was all in fun though, and my actual intention was just to share a site/radio show that other conservatives might enjoy.
If I were going to bait you, I think I might be able to come up with something a touch more clever than calling you a one-trick pony;)
Regarding your religious beliefs, I don’t remember much more about them than you’re Mormon. Why that would be some reason for me to attack you is beyond me…
I’d say you’re about as far from the truth as could be possible without GPS equipment and a rocket. My “lifestyle”, by which I’m going to make the grand assumption that you’re talking about my sexuality, is not only none of your business but also probably far from what you think it might involve. And I don’t remember the last time Monty and I talked about my sex life, nor the last time we talked about his. Maybe it’s because it’s largely irrelevant to a whole lotta stuff?
I remember one debate thread in which you even posted. For all I know you could have posted in 25 of them at once. I have a few more important things in my life to do than go searching for posts of yours from a year ago or longer, I assure you:)
As for the necessity of a comment, there’s really a far more egregious action here: was your thread really necessary;) Hell, is much of the stuff in MPSIMS really necessary? It doesn’t say much about my comment that in a forum with a lot of random stuff in it, one of my posts wasn’t necessary. I submit to you that at least ten percent of my posts have been wholly unnecessary:D
It would be more ironic if the original poster had said both comments. But the 2nd quote was from me - and I in no way implied (nor do I believe) that Liberals are stupid. I was merely stating the obvious - if you disagree with something, logically disprove it, don’t just throw insults at it.
Right, iampuhna, and I was totally wrong in my assumptions when you called me a one trick pony. Good defense of your comment, though. I really enjoy it when people make comments, and I make direct retorts to those comments, then they defend with a classic "oh I didn’t even say that, imply it, or hint to anything similiar to it. No, this thread nor your comment is really “necessary,” but you showed yourself and it did appear as you were baiting me. End of story.
Bob55: Do you know by chance what station this guy is on and what time? (Well, that’s a loaded thing to say because you probably have no clue about radio stations in Colorado Springs) It’s also something I could research myself, but I was curious.
