Wellllllll, ok. Are you SURE you aren’t some Cristi clone? Some trollish sort of sockpuppet? Step up for your retinal scan and DNA test. Checks out ok, I see.
IT’S OK GUYS!!! IT’S JUST CRISTI!!!
The name change occurred just a few minutes ago, just as I was getting ready to reply in a thread. I had replied to a few other threads as Cristi, then all of a sudden, I wasn’t Cristi anymore. Weird.
But I like the new name. I know it’s harder to spell, but I always did like the story of Persephone.
Christi? <peering intently at her through her bifocals> Is that really you? Yep! I think it is! Hello, there! Boy, am I relieved! I kept looking at when you registered, and your post count, and thought I was losing it! Whew!!
Kyla–I’m not 100% sure, but I believe it might relate to whether or not the admins close your account and give you a new one, or not. I changed my name early on (typed my actual, full name in, like a dumbass) and kept my low-at-the-time post count.
I’m not sure why some people do change their accounts instead of just the name (e.g. Notthemama), or if the admins do one thing in some circumstances, and a different thing in another.
Evilbeth, this is just one of many inconsistencies in the myths. Of course, myth fundies will have a bunch of reasons why it’s not inconsistent, such as, since Helios is all seeing, mentioning him along with Zeus is unnecessary. In other words, Helios seeing everything is a given, therefore, saying only Zeus noticed still includes Helios.
Skeptics don’t buy this, of course, but since we don’t have the original manuscripts (and even some translations are questionable) what it comes down to is faith, which is subjective and not always logical. There are those who hope that recent archaelogical finds will shed light on the myths, and may even prove portions of them to be true, but I believe this will only open many more cans of worms.
I eagerly await the publishing of the so-called “Zeus Project”, in which mythologists, historians and other scholars are attempting to find the real Zeus and perhaps shed light on what he really did, said, etc. No doubt this will result in more contention and controversy, but the course of serious study should not be curtailed.
