Hey! My cousin Chad and his wife Cathy had a baby girl this morning! I don’t know anything else about the baby yet, like name or weight. But I will find out soon.
I can’t believe how excited this makes me. I have a rather close family, so I’m good friends with my cousin and his wife. Cathy is the greatest. She was going to have the baby under water. Cool, huh? I can’t wait to find out more!

You’re a first cousin once removed. Your kids (if/should you have them) are/will be the baby’s second cousins.
That said, I’ve got about a dozen of them myself, and I usually refer to them as my nieces and nephews.

I must have two or three dozen of them and I usually refer to them as “You’re somebody’s kid, aren’t you?” I’m quite close to some of my first cousins once removed, but they’re all my mother’s cousins. I barely know any of my cousins’ kids.
Update: The baby’s name is Emily Iris. She weighs a wopping 8 pounds, 10 ounces and is 19 inches long. It’s time to start knitting booties. Wheeeeeee!
