I just wanted to say that this is a beautiful riposte.
My immediate Boomer circle of friends & family agree that President Trump would be a total disaster. Even the “radical” Bernie fans among us (no, they weren’t all kids) know that voting for Hillary is now necessary.
However, My Generation does include far too many Trump fans. And figures indicate that most of us do tend to vote.
So those whippersnappers better get off their asses & down to the polling places!
(Note about those generational generalizations: Isn’t the iconic Boomer, Gen X-er or Millennial always white? That’s a rather short-sighted world-view.)

It’s true that Democrats would be criticizing the Republican nominee, whoever it happened to be, because a Republican nominee would be bound to hold views that we Democrats strongly disagree with. But I would never say that, e.g., Ryan or Kasich or Cruz is not a serious national politician or doesn’t have any considered policy positions.
I don’t think that Ryan or Kasich or Cruz would be a good President because I think they have a shit-ton of bad ideas. But at least they actually HAVE ideas, and at least they would actually CARE about being a good President according to their own lights.
Trump, on the other hand, is merely a lying showboater whose demagogue schtick is entirely divorced from practical governmental realities. He absolutely could not care less about anything that would happen to the country on his watch, as long as it provided publicity and advantage for Trump himself.

I can understand where the OP is coming from.
I am an old American, and I am slightly afraid of where America seems to be leaning.
As the polls show right now, whether Trump wins or not, the very fact that half of the people in this country want and support a Trump presidency, indicates to me that the United States is not the country I thought it was.
