I'm back from Baltimore!

And I bet no one even noticed my absence! Oh well. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had the most wonderful time, especially since I got to spend it all with the most wonderful guy. Rebound Guy and I spent the whole weekend together, taking in the sights, and eating lots of food. (Note to self: must find new nickname for Rebound Guy  , and buy bigger pants!)

We visited the Inner Harbor (is that supposed to be capitalized? I don’t know.) and I got to see my guy do a show at the Improv. It was really cool, because he included a joke that he dropped my name in, which made me get all flushed. He actually got more laughs in his 10 minutes than Pauly Shore got in the first 20 minutes of his act, so I guess it was good. My guy opened the show, and Todd Glass also performed. He was HILARIOUS. If you have the chance to go see him, do it. I highly recommend it. He was really friendly, and I got to meet him before the show and hang out with him. Pauly Shore was really nice, and we got to do the gratuitous pictures/hugs after the show. (Another note to self: Pauly Shore really does talk in that “hey buuuuuuuuddy!” way. All. The. Time. My god it was weird!)

We also went to the open mic night at the bar that Rebound Guy sometimes works door for. (Lord, I know that was an awkward sentence, but I’m still on this goofy high since this weekend.) He and his best friend played a bunch of their medleys and original songs, and a good time was had by all. I got most of it on video, and if I can find a way to get it online, it will go on his webpage.

Rebound Guy also got some really cool news while I was there. He will be opening 11 shows at the Improv for Tom Wilson. Ok, who the hell is Tom Wilson, you say? Well, his most noteable role was “Biff Tannen” in Back to the Future. (Which just happens to be Rebound Guy’s favorite childhood movie!) I am so excited about it, and glad he got the news while I was there so we could celebrate.

I just loved the city. I had such a good time, and I really didn’t want to leave. (Oh, and Eve? I know now what you meant about Glen Burnie!) Alas, duty calls, and Rebound Guy couldn’t come back with me. (He has a television appearance to do Friday morning, and a show to do on Saturday night.)

Oh well. He’s coming to town for a wedding that I have to go to at the beginning of January, and then for two weeks in April. I’ve really got to find another nickname for him, though. Not serious enough to call “boyfriend” and so much more than just my “Rebound Guy”. Any suggestions?

So, next time I make it up that way, maybe I can meet up with a Doper or two. I forsee lots of roadtrips in my future.

Not much to do with the OP, though I’ve been to the improv clubs in B’more, and probably been to the very one your RG performed in! But, I’m dyin’ here, what did Eve say about Glen Burnie? I was born and raised there til about 7 years ago.

Well, let’s just say that I think Eve understands the nickname “Dirty Burnie”.

I was so excited before my trip, because there was light snow in the forecast, and of course it didn’t snow. So, Rebound Guy sent me an IM directing me to this picture.

I swear. Those guys are insane!

Ah—hahahaha . . . Well, since norinew is from there, I wonm;t say anything . . . A couple of my best friends are from Glen Burnie, too, so it doesn’t seem to do any permanent damage. Did you see the Fontain Bleu, ground zero of Baltimore tackiness?

Damn. I was all ready to slam Glen Burnie as a bastion for tackiness and norinew had to go and ruin it for me.

I missed the Fontain Bleu. We’re saving that for my next trip up there.
And Ben (AKA Rebound Guy) seems to be the sweetest, dearest guy, so I’m sure being raised in Glen Burnie wasn’t too terribly bad. He actually lives in Catonsville, if you want to get all technical about it. We spent most of the weekend there and at his mom’s house in Glen Burnie. It was too friggin’ cold and windy in downtown Baltimore, so we didn’t spend too much time there.

Oh, and we ate at Hooters, (woo) and because of my passion for ice cream we had lunch at Friendly’s. Mmmmm. Ice cream! Winter be damned!

Did I see it?!?!? My senior prom was held there!! My husband’s wedding reception (first marriage) was held there. Tacky? Absolutely, but boy do they know how to put on a wedding reception!!

Now, don’t let me spoil your fun! There are reasons I left, you know

Glen Burnie - 'taint nothing! My husband works in the strange land that is Dundalk!!

Skerri - did you happen to notice the tall building at the Inner Harbor near Federal Hill that looks kinda like a lighthouse at the top? That’s Harborview - the marina there is where my sweetie is living. I was there this past weekend, but after we got done with the obligatory family stuff, he and I opted for time alone. Perhaps one of these times if you and I are there on the same day, we can try to connect??

FairyChatMom, I can’t say that I blame you! We tried to get some “alone time” as often as possible this weekend.

We should definitely try to do Baltimore. I think it would be a blast, as long as there’s no snow everywhere. (I’m a Southern girl. We don’t drive in snow!) And I know exactly which building you are talking about, because Ben and his friend Nat pointed it out to me. Of course, they pointed out many buildings, but Nat did his best to try to sound like a tour guide as we made our way around the city. Too bad he’s moving to LA in January, because he makes a hilarious tour guide.

Dundalk!?! My dad grew up in Dundalk!

I myself lived in that bastion of culture known as Highlandtown for a while.

Glen Burnie?!? Haven’t been back in decades… anyone from Corchran Jr High??

My folks grew up in Canton - my youngest sister lives there in my grandparents’ old house. I’m a Parkville High School graduate myself.

Ah, Hollandtown!

Hollan’taown? Dundawk?

Y’all gane downey ayshun dis sumber? Jis take de ha-way.

I’d tell how close I live to that place, but I don’t want Eve to lose respect for me (if she has any  ).

On the rare occasions I have to drive on Ritchie Highway, I try to avert my eyes.

All youse is fromey sout’ side, hon. I’m from Tow-sen.

You can take the girl out of Dundalk, but you can’t take the gum out of her mouth (or you can’t pry the Aquanet out of her hand).

Speaking of Highlandtown, I attended Holy Rosary. I swear my mother didn’t like me…

Oh, heck, yeah! Me and hubby both. I was there (in Corkran) from '74-76, hubby started and finished a year earlier. When we were attending, the principal was an old red-nosed guy named “Cook”, and he drank “soup” from a thermos all day long; by the end of the day, he was swaying pretty badly!

Hey, my daughter is a freshman at Parkville!

Woo! Go Kinghts!

Another Balti-Moron checking in.
I live in Towson.

Eve! I didn’t know you were from Bawlmer!
You’re a Hon!
