It's Monday - I must be in Maryland.

I live in Maryland now! It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, since I only crossed the border yesterday, but the paper stapled into my passport means I can work here for a year. And since I can renew it every year and there’s not much chance of them refusing me a renewal, I suppose my move is pretty permanent. For a first move away from home, that’s a hell of a step! Worth it, though… just scary as hell.

So I’ve left Montreal behind, and I’m an alien. I have to work on blending in - I think my eh is showing.

Congrats on moving to my favorite state! I was born and raised there, and I still miss it even though I’ve lived in the midwest for 15 years.

Where are you? Baltimore area, probably? Maybe closer to D.C.? I’m guessing that the Metro areas are best for having a work visa…?

Welcome to Merrylande! And it looks like we produced spring just for you. I hope you enjoy it here!

You’re here! YOU’RE FINALLY HERE!

When would you like your welcoming party?

You are absolutely the sweetest thing ever, you know that?

Give me a while to get settled - I’m living out of boxes at my boyfriend’s place until I can find an apartment. But I’m here!! I’m so looking forward to meeting some Maryland Dopers (and expat Canucks, if you’ve got 'em), as soon as I can find a little place to call home, and get past the first couple of weeks with the flurry of paperwork and learning the new job.

Maybe early April?

Figaro - I’m in the Baltimore area.

I can’t believe how springy it is here - going from snowbanks to almost-budding trees in one twelve-hour drive is sort of a shock. I’ll be sending home pictures of early flowers, just to make my mom jealous. I had to dig through my things to find a lighter jacket, because I feel a little overdressed in my down coat!

Don’t let that get around.

Oh, 'gen. You’re kidding, right? Coat? I’m in sandals and a tank top.

Welcome to Bawlamer, Hon.

(that’s local “Bawlamorese” for “Welcome to Baltimore” see here: Hon - Everything2.com).

I work in northwest Baltimore and used to live in Baltimore for a while, but I live in PA now. I’m a daily visitor.

Enjoy the crab cakes. Check out the inner harbor. If you need more advice on things to do, just ask. There’s plenty of Baltimorons (er, Baltimoreans) on the SDMB. You’re one of the MADs (Mid Atlantic Dopers) now. Sounds like Ginger won’t let you get off to a bad start no matter what.

Congratulations! I just left Baltimore yesterday, after my brother’s wedding. Even though I live almost 3,000 miles away, it’ll always be home to me.

It’s a great little city, and it sounds like you’ve got plenty of folks to show you around. Have a crabcake for me.

Welcome to Baltimore!
We’re a friendly bunch. Just don’t believe Gingy when she tries to drag you to yoga on the premise that it’s ‘fun.’ It’s sheer torture.

But her DopeFests are wonderful.

Welcome. Well, I am not in Baltimore, at least not often. I am over the big water, in Virginia.

You have heard how the City of Baltimore was named, right?

Yoga SEEMS like fun after the ritual pulling out your eyebrows with strings. much less painful.

Welcome to Maryland.

You know, we’re the model for religious freedom in the USA. We were a colony of - well, not sure I should say it, but - Catholics! They founding fathers had to accomodate us somehow…

OooooooOOOOoo, Antigen moved!

Cool, best wishes and all that. I think Merrylanders like anybody who doesn’t think their state got absorbed by a larger one at some point

You’re such a girl.

Nope, she’s really a rude, pushy bitch. But she does do good parties. Welcome to Maryland!

Welcome! I’ve been in the area for almost eight years now and I’m still getting used to some of its quirks.

Welcome as well. Don’t miss the Maryland Rennaisance Festival this fall! Oh, and after 15 or so years here, I still am not used to the muggy, muggy summers. But that’s what the pool, A/C and cold beer are for.

Suck it, Norine EWW.

And for cold beer, nothing beats the Baltimoron treat… Natty Boh!*

Welcome to the neighborhood, Antigen. If I remember correctly from a previous thread, you’re right up the road from me. (Checking subscribed threads… Yup.) If you want to see a redneck nightclub, Cancun Cantina is quite close. And I swear Glen Burnie has the highest concentration of bowling alleys in the entire country. Both tenpin and (what should be Maryland’s state sport) duckpin.

*You’ll never get me to touch that swill, but I have a friend who is just emerging from poor college student status that swears by it as a drinkable dirt cheap beer. I take his word on that.

That’s Glimbur Nee, isn’t it?

Natty Boh is good for drinking at Nacho Mama’s in Canton (on the square) with friends and really spicy hot food.
