Every Republican is a buffoon.
I think he’ll withdraw again, like he always does. He does possess an amazing ability to swallow his foot.
If he meant that some are rapists (just like in every other portion of society: Americans, short people, famous athletes, the Marquis de Sade), what was the reason for singling it out? It holds absolutely no distinction whatsoever and certainly doesn’t support whatever point he was trying to make.
I think everyone knew what he meant indeed.
I see him nominating an African-American, somebody more articulate and better with the public, having the advanced degrees he lacks, espousing conservative views about accepting responsibility for yourself and pulling up by one’s bootstraps, with one percenter level wealth and an equal level of name recognition and media performance.
Of course I’m referring to Bill Cosby.
If a meteor destroyed all the other current candidates, which is what it would take, and Trump actually got close to the nomination, the screaming from Republicans would be orders of magnitude louder than the laughter of Democrats.
He should spin up a reality show, “Celebrity Running Mate”. It would only run one season, so he’d have to pick the group of contestants carefully. Of course it’s a given that slots will go to Gary Busey and Meat Loaf. I’m not sure who will round our the field. Carrot Top? Ted Nugent?
Trump-Nugent does make a certain amount of sense.
Trump is going to do well, but he won’t win the nomination. But if he did, I say the same thing about him as about Sanders in another thread. He won’t be able to get a big name VP, or even a middling name VP. He’ll have to get a House member or an ambassador or former low level cabinet member, or maybe just go all-business and pick Mark Cuban or something.
Let’s be clear: Trump’s “rapist” comments about immigrants from Mexico is intended for one purpose: to fan the flames of white fear about brown people.
It’s little different than the rhetoric one heard in the past (and now!) from those opposing desegregation.
That was never Trump’s intention. If Trump was a racist we would have found out sometime in the last 40 years he’s been in the limelight. Trumps’ issue is with Mexico’s government, which he does actually hate, using the US as an escape valve. Is there any evidence that Trump’s empire discriminates against Latino employees? You’d think that would be an aspect of a racist guy owning a giant empire too.
What Trump did do is take his beef with the Mexican government and illegal immigration and use a broad brush. He deserves all the scorn he’s getting, but he’s more Bill Maher than Bull Connor.
The obvious choice is his daughter, Ivanka Trump: experience in business, female, photogenic…
Trump Trump 2016!
It would be the most luxurious presidential ticket ever.
You guys are missing the obvious… A reality show where people compete to be his VP nominee.
^see post #25.
Ah, thanks. Yes, Nugent, he of the bullet proof rocking force field!
Olivia Nuzzi tweets: “Trump is like a YouTube comment thread that achieved sentience.”
Don’t know who the hell she is, but damn, that’s brilliant.
I didn’t get an advance copy of the New York Times, but great minds think alike: Can’t Fire Him: Republican Party Frets Over What to Do With Trump.
I don’t think you really believe this. If you do, you’re incredibly uninformed.
Trump’s numbers reflect name recognition, and not much else.
Does that theory apply to JEB!, too?
Indeed yes, just as it did to his brother in 2000.
You think a Texas governor named George W. Brown would have been the frontrunner in 2000?
For that matter, would a Senator named Hillary Johnson be a front runner?
astorian Johnson is right! No one would vote for Hillary Johnson!
Or, to some audiences, ¡Jeb!
Trump’s name recognition has been more or less constant throughout. However polls before and after his comments about Mexicans are decidedly different. I don’t think he’ll rise much higher than this because there’s only so many people who hate Mexicans, but you can’t ignore that those people exist and have swung to Trump.
