I'm being confirmed, and you're all invited...

Well, I underwent the scrutiny Monday night, and I passed with flying colors. I’m being confirmed at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night. Our Lady of Wisdom Byzantine Catholic Church.

I figure, if all of you come, it’ll be great. We haven’t got our actual church building built yet, so we’re temporarily in a modular building that’s about the size of a shoebox. It’ll be like the VW Beetle stuffing contests back in the seventies, only with incense.

I’m thirty-two years old, it’s about time…

You mean you’ve been running around unconfirmed all these years? Like a rumor?

Congratulations, agisophia! What name are you taking?

I don’t remember my confirmation all that well, I was in 7th grade - the Catholic Church’s version of “vote early, vote often”. But my college roommate went through RCIA (Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults) my senior year, and I was his sponsor. He got the whole package - baptism, confirmation, eucharist. It really was a wonderful experience, one we had put a lot of effort in. I wish that I had been older for my Confirmation, it would have meant a lot more.

Sala, can’t you count?!? I said NO camels! That’s FIVE camels!

I HAVE BEEN SMOKE-FREE FOR:
Five days, 14 hours, 55 minutes and 8 seconds.
224 cigarettes not smoked, saving $28.11.
Life saved: 18 hours, 40 minutes.

I’m taking the name Michaela. After the Archangel Michael. There’s a long story there that I don’t have time to type at just this moment. I’m supposed to be getting ready for work right now…

Can’t make it in person, but congrats from here…

My warmest congratulations, agisofia. I rejoined the Church in my early 20s – having been baptized, but not raised, Roman Catholic – and I was confirmed a few years back. (Come to think of it, I was also 32.) I took St. Dismas as my patron. “Michaela” is a beautiful confirmation name, and you can’t do better than an archangel for a patron!

I’m very happy for you, dear. Have a beautiful and blessed Easter.

Rats. I thought we were going to have a Supreme Court Justice on the SDMB now.

Okay, I’ll be there in spirit. In the rear left corner of the shoebox.

I think an Easter trip to Las Vegas is out, unfortunately, but I’ll be there in spirit, agisofia.

btw, you’re not the oldest confirmee (if that’s a word) that I know of - my little sister got confirmed in the Episcopal Church when she was 38.

Ooooh two spirits are gonna be there- it’s going to bea haunted confirmation!

Confirmandum, I believe, with the plural confirmandi.

That’s wonderful news, agisofia. Congratulations, and wlecome to the fullness of the Church.

Bricker, close. It could be, but I found a catechism site that takes off the “um”, leaving confirmand. If you want a look-see, I’ve got it here.

congratulations, Agasofia!!!

Bricker - As I recall fom my confirmation days, it’s confirmand.

StG

Agisofia - My apologies for misspelling your name.

Connor - had to beat me to the punch, didn’t you?

StG

AGISOFIA – Blessings to you on the occasion of your confirmation. I was confirmed into the Protestant faith (Congregationalist) as a fourteen-year-old and, frankly, I think it might have been more meaningful to be confirmed as an adult, though certainly I took the process seriously even at that age. I’ll be there in spirit as well, and will look for an appropriately kitchy yet appropos confirmation gift – perhaps a plastic Blessed Virgin Mary night light? Congratulations.

jodih - funny you should mention that. A friend of mine from Ireland (very devote) has a glow-in-the-dark statue of Mary. She says she knows its way cheesy, but likes it because it’s the last thing she sees at night. Personally, I think she should try to set up a snakeoil business selling visions in her closet…

Congratulations!

I agree with others who have said that it is more meaningful to be confirmed as an adult. I’m sure I speak for many of us who experienced it as children and didn’t really have a clue as to the significance of the occasion.

Congrats! I’m not Catholic, so I have no clue as to all the meaning behind it, but it is obviously something you’ve worked for and are proud of.

As I said, I don’t know what this is, but I wouldn’t pass anybodys scrutiny! I’m very happy for you.

Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.

weirddave-
Right now, it’s late and I’m too tired to come up with an explanation that wouldn’t include a lot of Catholic “in group” terminology that would only leave you confused. But I think you deserve one. Tune in to this channel over the weekend…

And thanks for all the warm thoughts, everyone.

Congratulations, agisophia! Welcome to the fold. Did they teach you all the secret handshakes and code words yet?
