I'm bored what should i do

I’d like to go out and talk to people but don’t know where or how. So i’m probably going to end up staying inside. i guess i will try to learn new things that are useful to me.

Right now i’m reading up on basic car maintenance and what to do every 1000, 3000, 6000, etc miles. What other skills should i learn that will serve me down the road?

. . . have a yellow satin bed entirely quilted in butterflies?
. . . tie black tulle bows on your wrists?
. . . give a diamond bracelet as a gift to the wife of your favorite bandleader?
. . . line the trunk of your car in mink?
. . . wear violet mittens with everything?

[sorry, I was temporarily possessed by the spirit of Diana Vreeland]

The laundry mat is a great place to meet people.

How to start a fire without matches is probably a handy skill.

If you tell us where you are, maybe we can help you meet people.

If that’s not an option - Balloon Animals!!! It’s fun, it’s good stress relief, people love you (as long as you don’t dress like a clown) and they make good temporary gifts.
I learned the basics of twisting last year right about this time. I brought my supplies to Mr. Congo’s family reunion and everyone loved it. This year at the pre reunion meeting, one of the adults asked if I’d be doing it again. Turns out that balloon animals aren’t just for kids.

Yoga. Great stress relief.
Sewing. Save money on clothes by spending lots of money on fabric

lessee… the whole “starting a fire with no matches” thing is a good skill to have… but doesn’t really add any excitement, or help meet new people. so… make a fire with no matches, the light yourself on fire… it will be REALLY exciting, and you’ll get to meet the nice paramedics and doctors and nurses at the hospital… and it’ll be a really great conversation starter, for instance
cute nurse: “How did you catch fire?”
you: “well… I was kinda bored…”

SDMB is a great time killer, IMO. so just keep posting
